About the Role

Our engineering culture is IC-driven. We favor bottom-up ideation and empowerment of our team. We're looking for early career managers who will help our engineers find creative solutions to challenges.  


As a Manager of Software Engineering at Highspot, you will inspire, lead, and grow a team of creative and talented core engineers within a major product area. You’ll bring your expertise and skills to bear on strategic decisions about our technical ecosystem, team operations, team norms, and engineering culture. You'll also be a key decision-maker with a focus on growing, simplifying, and maintaining our in-app reporting capabilities. Your team will own the underlying reporting infrastructure and query capabilities needed to unlock access to strategic, analytical insights so customers can successfully self-serve an increasing number of data-based questions.

What You'll Do

  • Lead, coach, and build a diverse, inclusive, high-performing team where all team members can do their best work
  • Successfully deliver project goals for the release, some of these will include research
  • Build and share best practices
  • Coach, mentor and provide immediate feedback to engineers to help their growth
  • Collaborate with technology, Services and product organizations to understand what drives customer joy and ensure your team works to address customer concerns in a timely manner
  • Work with architects on technical direction
  • Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, mentoring other members of the engineering community, and from time to time, be asked to evaluate code
  • Contribute to the recruiting, interviewing and onboarding process of new Engineering Team members
  • Have fun, engage with the team as you do the above and celebrate small wins!

Your Background

  • 1+ years of experience managing software engineering teams
  • Extensive experience developing and scaling cloud-native applications and infrastructure
  • Proven success in attracting and retaining top engineering talent from diverse backgrounds
  • Proven success as a partner and collaborator who prioritizes the success of the team over individual aspirations
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, priding yourself on getting things done with a high level of quality
  • Previous experience designing and building software products at scale
  • Deep understanding of the SDLC for SaaS applications
  • Working knowledge of modern object-oriented and functional programming languages
  • Experience with some of the tools we use or plan to use to continue iterating at Highspot include languages like JavaScript, Java, Closure, HTML/CSS, TypeScript, SQL, Python, Ruby or Go, Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of AWS tools and services
