Manager, Avionics Test
Company Overview:
Relativity is the first and only company to automate aerospace manufacturing by integrating intelligent robotics, software, and proprietary metal 3D printing technology. Disrupting 60 years of aerospace, Relativity offers a radically simplified supply chain, building a rocket with 100x fewer parts in less than 60 days. Our long-term goal is to upgrade humanity’s industrial base on Earth and on Mars.
Team:
The Avionics team is responsible for all aspects of the electrical design on the rocket, from electronics, interconnects, associated mechanical design, testing and initial production of the first 3D printed rocket! This team's scope includes the flight computers, power systems, RF systems, PCB design, autonomous flight safety systems, and telemetry. This team works on complex electrical systems that require modularity and flexibility, and are critical to the successful launch of Terran 1 and beyond!
What you’ll do:
As the Manager of Avionics Test, you will be responsible for overseeing all avionics deliverables to the Terran-1 Launch Vehicle. You will work with various component responsible engineers to ensure that boxes, harnesses, and systems are being tested to meet vehicle needs and deadlines. You will oversee the development of test equipment and a scripting infrastructure that can quickly and reliably test vehicle hardware. You will provide guidance to a number of team members that will produce test equipment, scripts, and integration hardware, and ensure that they remain focused by prioritizing and delegating work. You will provide feedback on numerous aspects of the test design that will allow for effective testing with high automation to improve test coverage while reducing labor. You should look for ways to adapt to 3D printing techniques to bring aerospace testing into the 21st century.
What you need to know:
- An undergraduate or graduate degree (BS/MS/PhD) in aerospace, mechanical, electrical engineering or equivalent and 5+ years relevant experience.
- 1+ years experience leading a team of at least 3 people
- Experience developing tests to support component acceptance/qualification or on-vehicle verification
- Skilled with developing test software (e.g. Python, Beckhoff, LabView) and maintaining version control of software packages
- Experience with the planning, design, bring-up, and integration of the electrical system of large scale systems (e.g. car, plane, launch vehicle or satellite, ship)
- Willingness to travel to our test facilities at the Stennis Space Center and launch sites at Vandenberg and Cape Canaveral
Nice to haves but not required – if you do not meet all of these criteria, you should still apply:
- Prior work on a launch vehicle or spacecraft
- Electrical CAD and circuit design experience
- Mechanical design experience with CAD modeling software, preferably Teamcenter & NX
- Experience in a startup or agile development environment
- Excellent communication skills
We believe varied perspectives & backgrounds strengthen our team. Prior experience in aerospace is not required.
Relativity Space offers competitive salary and equity, a generous vacation policy, an annual Learning & Development stipend and more!
