Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage teams of internal, external, and contract resources that design, deliver, and validate manufacturing equipment for a wearable based medical product.
  • Drive and collaborate across Ops Engineering teams on qualification activities throughtout the manufacturing processes for New Product Introduction(NPI) and sustaining needs
  • Review new designs, enhancements, and programs with product developers for quality/form/fit/function in the manufacturing environment
  • Contribute to DFM/DFA activities for new product introductions and product updates
  • Define and manage automated / semi-automated product assembly equipment, system architecture, robotics concepts, and tooling development efforts with internal and external development teams.
  • Continually improve the working practices within the team to improve efficiency and productivity when producing automated equipment and documentation.
  • Help set the strategy and procedures for the automation engineering teams
  • Refine and follow the standards for information security in the operational technology environment
  • Drive and implement rigorous quality standards for all aspects of the automation delivery from initial concept to final commissioning.
  • Prepare budgets and resourcing plans for multiple complex automation projects with simultaneous execution
  • Apply automation principles around safety, best practices, etc. to support/drive technical solutions with the team.Develop / maintain project timelines and provide update reports on a weekly/monthly (or daily, when needed) basis or as needed.
  • Lead in engagements with internal and external functions of the company for process development, process improvement projects, and alternate raw material and parts initiatives to improve product quality, decrease cost, and improve manufacturing efficiencies.
  • Lead to gain decisions with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing, formulations, process requirements and capabilities.
  • Coordinate with cross functional stakeholders on equipment roadmap for new manufacturing lines.
  • Direct team of engineers with varying levels of experience and further develop and build-out strengths and skillsets.
  • Ability to apply engineering design and drafting tools, such as SolidWorks.
  • Follow design, quality, and safety guidelines based on GMP, FDA, and ISO guidelines and related Quality and Safety Standards and Practices.
  • Accomplishes tasks while conforming to the company quality system procedures.
  • Professional, timely, courteous, and highly organized.
  • This position assumes and performs other duties as assigned.



Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in an Engineering field
  • Expert in building effective relationships through rapport, trust, diplomacy, and tact.
  • Advanced organizational, planning and time management skills.
  • Advanced verbal and written skills.
  • Able to communicate with customers at all levels and capable of managing their expectations
  • Proven track record to manage concurrent projects, maintain timelines, and execute in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing budgets for large / capital projects.
  • General knowledge and understanding of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 21 CFR 820 and International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety and ergonomics compliance
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, motivate, and accomplish results through peers and junior level engineers
  • Understanding of risk management policies and procedures.
  • 4+ years of experience in a automation engineering role



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in medical device industry.
  • Knowledge of DCS/PLC/SCADA systems
  • Knowledge of networking and automation communication protocols
  • Expertise in managing engineers of differening levels and skills.
  • Allen Bradley PLC experience



Functional Description

Directs and guides the activities of the automation engineering function responsible for designing, developing, modifying and integrating computer-controlled electronic and mechanical systems for the automation of industrial tasks and enhancement of manufacturing, processing or production equipment. Develops and applies advanced electronic controls and mechanical systems. Oversees the manufacturing of consumer products and the development of new electromechanical concepts for new automated manufacturing lines. Responsible for product component assembly architecture, preparing test plans and supporting testing and validation of products.

  • Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals.
  • Provides guidance to team members / supporting employees using established company policies.
  • Frequently interacts with subordinate supervisors, customers, and/or functional peer group managers, normally involving matters between functional areas, other company divisions or units, or customers and the company.

  • Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors.
  • Follows processes and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will add to costs and may impact the short-term goals of the organization.



Management

  • Manages the coordination of department/functional activities with responsibility for results, methods and staffing.
  • In some instances may be responsible for a functional area or contracted / outsourced employees or matrixed reports.
  • People management responsibilities include hiring / terminations, performance reviews, career development coaching and compensation decisions.



Experience and Education

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree with 8-12 years of industry experience.
  • 2-5 years of previous management or lead experience.
