Machine Learning Engineering Manager

As an Engineering Manager for Liftoff's ML group you will play a pivotal role in shaping our business: you'll own management, hiring, and the ultimate output of our ML-focused teams, who collectively own the core of our product. You'll also join a team of three EMs who together lead Liftoff's engineering org and culture, and share a passion for both excellent people management and building great technology.
Location: This role is eligible to work out of any of the following US Office locations on a flexible WFH/WFO schedule: Redwood City, San Francisco, and New York City

Responsibilities:
- People management for all US ML group engineers -- including coaching and growing ICs and TLs, performance review/management, and compensation
- Own hiring for ML teams, from hiring handbook to closing, in collaboration with our excellent technical recruiting team
- Support the team with structure, context, and motivation so they can maximize velocity and quality
- Deeply understand the group's work in order to be an effective technical thought partner
- Own eng-wide initiatives as a member of the Liftoff Eng Management team
Requirements:
- 2+ years of experience managing engineering teams
- Experience hiring great team members
- Experience working at a startup or in a startup-like context (e.g. founding a team around a new product area)
- 1+ year of hands-on software engineering experience
- STEM education at undergraduate or graduate level
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with Machine Learning, Data Science, or applied research is a big plus
