Lead System Validation Engineer - RESS Safety & OEM Validation

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be on-site 1-3 times per week.

In this exciting role as a Lead System Validation Engineer you will be responsible for ensuring that all areas of performance integration and validation have been completed for the assigned features or systems. As part of a diverse team of individuals, you have the ability to work flexibly to ensure a proper work-life integration. Working closely with the design, development, VDDV (Virtual Design, Development, and Validation), OEM business team, software, calibration, component, and system validation teams, you will assure early on in the product development process, that functional performance, failure modes and customer requirements are comprehended appropriately in the validation plans and risk mitigation strategies.
This position provides opportunities for the candidate to learn and grow in these areas:
- Leading through influence / indirect leadership
- Project planning, coordination, execution and tracking at a feature based (RESS Safety and OEM applications) system level scale
- Technical understanding at system, subsystem, and component levels
- Validation processes and methodologies (physical and virtual)
- Analytical methods to support hardware test elimination
- Understanding of both the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP) and Global Propulsion Development Process (GPDP)
- Significant expansion of personal network (VDDV, Program Teams, Calibration, etc.)
- Creation and presentation of communications at the executive level
- Understanding of RESS laboratory operations (Internal & External)
- Product program budget process
- Participate in DFMEAs and DRBFMs
- Provide mentoring and feedback to engineers supporting validation activities
- Exposure to the ever-growing OEM (Non-Automotive) area of GMs business plan
Specific Job Responsibilities:
- System validation single point contact to review specifications and requirements to ensure quantitative metrics.
- Has technical understand of system level validation and requirements, as well as component hardware level of knowledge
- Review and approval of all feature based test plans.
- Develop, plan, and drive execution of feature based VCRI (Validation Cross Reference Index).
- Prioritize work and coordinate resources necessary to support in-house testing
- Track system and component validation status & sign-off to meet validation work.
- Build ADV plans and provide status updates at meetings as required (PAPIR) for all responsible programs.
- Ensure proper project reporting, review, closure, documentation, and archival including capturing all lessons learned and appropriate updates to FMEA templates
- Participate as needed in DFMEAs and DRBFMs
- Provide mentoring and feedback to engineers supporting validation activities
- Support vision to VDDV growth/linkage to validation to move to all virtual
Additional Description
Required Skills / Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Computer Science
- 5+ years of post-graduation engineering experience
- Ability to translate the requirements into validation test procedures and cases
- Work with limited requirements/data to accurately make effective decisions while emphasizing our customer consideration and impact
Preferred Skills / Qualifications
- MS in Engineering
- 7+ years of post-graduation engineering experience
- Knowledge of calibration and vehicle development
- Understanding of the capability of simulation test methods
- Ability to think critically and creatively to identify and remove roadblocks
- Outstanding interpersonal and relationship leadership skills to effectively collaborate with varying levels of our organization
- Excellent organizational, documentation, oral and written abilities
- Emerging partnership and teamwork skills and ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced collaborative team environment
- A high level of integrity and can handle ambiguity, take initiative/self-directed
