Description

Please note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

We are excited to consider a remote engineer! Remote team members will be expected to work out of their home office.

Your Opportunity

New Relic is looking for an experienced software engineer and technical leader to join our architecture team. The members of this team work closely with engineering teams and leadership to provide architectural expertise, design mentorship, and improve visibility of cross-team technical issues.

You're ready for this job if you've spent time building and improving large-scale high-availability production systems. You have hands-on front-line experience, and you're interested in how sophisticated systems work together and optimizing that routine. You've made mistakes (probably lots of them) and learned from them, but you've also been part of phenomenal successes.

At many companies, Architects are gatekeepers and enforcers. They're the people who tell you that your project violates the hosting policy or that you really shouldn't design your system to generate and capture an HTTP request for every customer page load. That's not our style - Architects are our technical leaders.

Opportunity to work from a remote office may be available depending on applicant location.

What You'll Do

Our Architects are leaders, not gatekeepers. They build the roadmap of where we're going and help keep the team aligned with that vision. We hire awesome engineers. You will help them see the future and guide the engineering teams to delivering for our customers.

We have a globally distributed development organization with teams spanning a nine-hour swath of timezones. The only way to keep all those teams in sync is through written communications.

Your Qualifications

Must-have:

  • 7+ years of technical leadership with robust engineering teams
  • Experience building and operating high-scale distributed systems
  • Collaborative and able to successfully navigate multi-functional teams with the organization
  • Published papers or presentations demonstrating written communication skill

Nice-to-have:

  • An advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a STEM field
  • Full stack knowledge of systems fundamentals
  • Experience with Docker, Java, Apache Kafka, and Apache Flink
