What you'll be doing:

At Tableau, we are on a mission to help people see and understand data. We create intuitive and powerful analytics software that enables thousands of leading organizations and millions of people around the world to find insights in their data. On the Visualization Pipeline team, we have a mission to provide our customers with interactive analytics. We value diversity of thought, share a love for making great software, and believe we do our best work as a team. As a Senior Member of Technical Staff focused on back-end development, we look forward to you using your knowledge, leadership, and passion to make a great positive impact on our platform, enhancing existing functionality and helping us build out brand new services to take us to the next level of platform capabilities and operational excellence.

As an engineer on the team, some of the things you'll be doing include

  • Design, define and extend our current Visualization Authoring APIs.
  • Play a key role in evolving our codebase into smaller, independent services, influencing API standards, system design, service integration testing and operational best practices.
  • Participate in design and code reviews, breaking down and estimating work, and selecting and incorporating appropriate tools and frameworks for the job.
  • Work on re-architecting layout to make it easily portable to various platforms like native application, and HTML.
  • This is not a pure backend role. We are looking for Software Engineers who are willing to work on both backend (C++) and frontend (HTML/React.js).

Who you are

  • Experienced. You are a high-performing software developer, with strong skills in modern C++. You have a strong understanding of concurrency, asynchronous programming and synchronization, as well as other low-level programming primitives.
  • Curious and versatile. We work with technologies such as C++, React, Emscripten, Web Assembly, and Javascript. Prior experience with all of these technologies is not required, but we are looking for a track record of eagerness and ability to learn.
  • Passionate. You have a passion for solving complex problems and you are always developing and growing your skills as an engineer. You do great work even when no one is watching. The drive to deliver is just part of you.
  • Team Player. You enjoy collaborating, learning from and teaching others so we can all become better engineers. You assume good intent in others, and actively do your part to make a positive work environment.
  • Strong Communicator. You can present your ideas and results to the team, contribute to technical documentation, ask questions and apply active listening skills.
  • You are a Recruiter! Tableau hires company builders and, in this role, you will be asked to be on the constant lookout for the best talent to bring onboard to help us continue to build one of the best companies in the world.
