As a Lead Software Engineer you will be part of the team that is improving provider experience within applications in Optum and transforming it to a modernized platform. If you ever wanted to be part of major application redesign, this is the position for you. Primary Responsibilities:

• Functions as hands-on engineering lead of a team of up to 8 to 10 employees and offshore resources
• Demonstrates advance level of understanding and application of general systems concepts and their integration with business problem resolution
• Ensure alignment of solutions with business and IT goals/objectives
• Identify enhancements to improve supportability, operability or performance of applications within the application group. Develop supporting business case for suggested enhancements
• Work with business partners/product owners to understand desired system functionality
• Understand new product capabilities and decompose the implementation into specific functional changes for verification
• Participate in design activities, monitor and ensure the completion of tasks and projects
• Exercise independent judgment and discretion to prioritize, plan and manage the activities of the team
• Review code and provide feedback relative to best practices and improving performance
• Provide guidance to team members to improve the team productivity
• Manage multiple projects at a time
• Set attainable goals for the team members and guide them thru success
• Deliver all project deliverables on scope, on time and on budget

Required Qualifications:

• 6+ years of software engineering experience
• 5+ years of experience within a Java environment
• 1+ years of production experience with cloud technologies
• In-depth knowledge of systems development life cycle and/or operational maintenance environment
• Experience with troubleshoot production support issues post-deployment and ability to come up with solutions as needed
• Experience delivering software using an Agile methodology
• Proven solid organization and effective communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree
• Experience developing project cost and benefit estimates, including identification and evaluation of alternatives
• Experience providing training and assistance on full range of technical issues to broader team
• Experience prototyping and performance tuning applications deployed across multiple operating systems, languages and computing platforms
• Understanding of distributed architecture design principles
• Experience working in the healthcare industry
• Business rule engine experience
• Streaming technology i.e., Kafka experience
• Cloud - Open Shift experience
• Database - NoSQL experience
• Microservices architecture experience
• Web Development - React, Angular experience
