Lead Software Engineer, B2B Products
Car shopping is complicated. At CarGurus, we use data and technology to make it simple, giving people the tools they need to confidently find, buy, finance, or sell a car. The best part? Our work makes a real impact. We’re the most-visited car-shopping site in the US and we are growing fast in our international markets. Ready to come along for the ride?
Our B2B product engineering team, Dealer Solutions, is looking for a Software Engineer to join the team in Cambridge, MA. On the Dealer Solutions team you’ll enhance or create new product offerings for car dealers to help their vehicles reach interested shoppers. Potential project opportunities: create algorithms to identify fraudulent listings to help protect consumers and dealers, create interfaces on top of third party tools, create micro-services to improve application scalability and flexibility, build solutions in collaboration with partner companies, and gain hands-on experience with the ad-tech domain through on-site and search engine marketing.
What You’ll Do:
There are three pillars to this role: strategic impact, leadership and acting as a technical owner for large parts of our code base:
Strategic impact: The Lead Software Engineer acts as a “chief architect” for one or more areas of our technical ecosystem. You will offer significant strategic vision and evolve a high-level, 1+ year plan for growth at a business level into a strategic technology roadmap, working with leadership along the way.
Technical Expertise: This is a coaching and leading role, but as the most senior technical advisor to leadership in your area, you will be an important influencer to core projects and experimental work. When presented with a complex problem, process, or existing system, you can reduce its complexity to get more done with less work. You will collaborate with our tech leads to provide technical guidance across multiple teams. Your technical guidance will mean team members working with you will feel like they are going to leave with something significantly better than they arrived with and will have learnt something along the way.
Leadership: Influencing and inspiring other engineers and tech leads will be paramount in the success of this role. You will facilitate cross-team work and influence different areas of the business beyond any single team or group. You will use your leadership expertise to drive groups of disparate interests to decisions, seeing these through to impact. You will be able to help make pragmatic decisions, balancing strategic and tactical needs. You will help leadership manage engineering risk and make sure we are making the right trade-off calls.
