Job Description:
Lead Mobile Software Engineer provides technical leadership in design, development and deployment of Caterpillar's state-of-the-art digital platform. This position will help build various customer facing mobile apps, including the Cat App, Caterpillar's mobile telematics solution, among others. Customers use our mobile solutions to buy parts and services, track the location and health of equipment, and activate telematics devices directly from their mobile device. Focus would be on leading mobile developers working on cross-platform mobile development stacks.

JOB DUTIES: As a Lead Software Engineer you will contribute to design, development and deployment of Caterpillar's state-of-the-art digital platform.
1. Competent to perform all programming and development assignments without close supervision; normally assigned the more complex aspects of systems work.
2. Works directly on complex application/technical problem identification and resolution, including responding to off-shift and weekend support calls.
3. Works independently on complex systems or infrastructure components that may be used by one or more applications or systems.
4. Drives application development focused around delivering business valuable features
5. Maintains high standards of software quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits.
6. Identifies and encourage areas for growth and improvement within the team.
7. Mentors junior developers.
8. Communicate with end users and internal customers to help direct development, debugging, and testing of application software for accuracy, integrity, interoperability, and completeness.
9. Performs integrated testing and customer acceptance testing of components that requires careful planning and execution to ensure timely, quality results.
The position manages the completion of its own work assignments and coordinates work with others. Based on past experiences and knowledge, the incumbent normally works independently with minimal management input and review of end results.
Typical customers include Caterpillar customers, dealers, other external companies who purchase services offered by Caterpillar as well as internal business unit and/or service center groups. The position is challenged to quickly and correctly identify problems that may not be obvious. The incumbent solves problems by determining the best course of action, within departmental guidelines, from many existing solutions. The incumbent sets priorities and establishes a work plan in order to complete broadly defined assignments and achieve desired results. The position participates in brainstorming sessions focused on developing new approaches to meeting quality goals in the measure(s) stated.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field
Proven experience as an app developer
6-8+ years developing mobile applications in iOS and/or Android
Proven experience with Swift, Kotlin, React Native or Flutter
Proficient using Git
Proficient with communicating via REST APIs
Familiarity with push notifications, and cloud messaging
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
Proficient in mobile threading concepts
Passionate about design guidelines, code reusability and maintainability
Familiar with both Firebase and Google web services in general
This position has the option to be based out of either our San Francisco, CA; Chicago, IL or Peoria, IL offices with flexibility for partial work from home when we return to office.
Summary Pay Range:
$111,924.00 - $184,680.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
