Lead Engineer

Kunai is a fast-growing digital agency of 120+ people specializing in fintech. Ours is a fully remote team driven by innovation and experimentation, spread across almost every single continent. Over the past decade, we've shipped over 150 products for clients that include Visa, the United Nations, Wells Fargo, Ernst & Young, and TOMS Shoes. Our founders built a previous agency (Monsoon) that was acquired by Capital One in 2015. We focus our teams on outcomes that will grow the business and serve the needs of our customers.

We are looking for a Lead Full Stack Engineer who will partner with Product Management and Product Design to build new features leveraging more complex web-based UI frameworks. You should have previous experience identifying and integrating appropriate frameworks. The technical stack is React, Node, MySQL, MongoDB and AWS.

Responsibilities:

Work within the tech stack to help identify and implement the right UI framework as well as develop backend components.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features.

Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications.

Identify and correct bottlenecks and fix bugs.

Maintain code quality, organization, and automatization.

Assist in familiarizing the team with front-end frameworks.

Navigate and thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, with the capacity to work in areas outside of one's comfort zone and drive innovation.

Lead the execution on ideas from the initial stage to the final outcome, handling any ambiguity that comes along the way.

Proactively identify opportunities for system improvements and take the lead in developing solutions.

Apply security measures and data protection practices across all applications and platforms.

Qualifications:

7+ years of experience in software development with 3+ years of technical team lead experience

Expertise in React, Node, MySQL, MongoDB and AWS

Expertise with front-end frameworks plus significant experience with backend development

Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills.

Strong knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.

Prior experience in a startup environment is highly desirable.

Demonstrated ability to lead projects from concept to completion, deal with ambiguity, and manage changing priorities.

Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
