Position Overview

Siemens ADVANTA is looking for an IoT System Engineer / System Administrator with a background in deploying, implementing, maintaining and monitoring systems in support of various applications and / or developed solutions. This person will be responsible for delivery and support of common Siemens Advanta application platforms and environments, both on-premise and cloud for our customers.

Responsibilities

The IoT System Engineer / Administrator has the following broad responsibilities in both internal as well as customer environments:

ul

  • Debug and analyze applications issues related to infrastructure components and system performance
  • Deployment of applications based on documentation provided by the Technical Architect
  • Deployment of any necessary prerequisite software, middleware, databases required by the above software (e.g. Tomcat, Java, Apache HTTP)
  • Deployment of application updates in the form of service packs or hotfixes
  • Provide technical support and resolution to the project team for any issues potentially related to deployment of these components
  • Role may have similar responsibilities in multiple projects due to the dynamics of the responsibilities

  • Together with the project manager, define and realize project deliverables.
  • (Preferred but not required) Delivery of Network Architecture (Infrastructure) workshop for Siemens Applications (e.g., Siemens EnergyIP Platform)

  • (Preferred but not required) Design, develop, and document solution system architecture in collaboration with customers



    • Required Skills and Experience:

    The Engineer/Admin is expected to have a broad range of basic IT skills such as:

    ul

  • Unix/Linux system administration
    ul
  • Installation/management of operating system
  • System/performance monitoring
  • Use of common command line tools for managing the environment, working with files and file systems, etc
  • Manage Kafka servers


    • ul

  • Linux/UNIX command line


    • ul

  • Ability to use a text-based editor such as vi
  • File system (copy files, manage directories, check disk space availability/usage)
  • Read/write basic shell scripts


  • Networking knowledge


    • ul

  • Understand basic design elements of TCP/IP networks, VLAN usage
  • Usage of common command line network tools such as ping, traceroute, SFTP, SCP, TCPDump, netstat, curl.


  • Security


    • ul

  • Understanding of a firewall's role in a TCP/IP network as well as potential impact on application behavior
  • Basic understanding of Active Directory & LDAP structures and accessibility from 3rd party applications
  • Usage and deployment of SSL/certificates in applications like Tomcat or Apache HTTP

  • Database Navigation
    ul
  • Perform basic queries against a database to extract information needed to support analysis of environment/application issues
  • Oracle specific experience preferred, but not required


    • ul

  • Oracle (preferred)


    • ul

  • Functional usage of common Oracle tools such as SQLPlus, tnsping, SQL Developer
  • Create connection strings for use in tnsnames.ora or jdbc applications based on Oracle server details
  • Construct basic SQL statements to query or update an Oracle database


  • Cloud


    • ul

  • Familiarity with AWS or Azure Environments


    • ul

  • Troubleshooting/log analysis
    ul
  • Analyze/trace application issues to determine root cause
  • Review application logs and correlate with other application/system data


    • ul

  • 2 -3 years' experience with System Engineering or System Administration
  • Broad familiarity with cloud platforms, IoT solutions, compute infrastructure, cloud platforms, networking, connectivity protocols, sensors etc.
  • Competency in application, data, system, and network architectures


    • ul

  • Ability to work and foster a team-oriented environment.
  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Self-motivated and detail oriented
  • Ability to facilitate client workshops
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills, both internally and externally
  • Superb organizational and prioritization skills
  • 'Whatever it takes' attitude and motivation to deliver above quota performance
