A Brief Summary of This Position:

The Innovation Cloud Architect reports to the Director of Business Innovation Architecture and is the Subject Matter Expert (SME) of Azure Cloud Services within the Coatings segment for all innovation systems. The role is responsible for the research, planning, development, deployment, support, maintenance, and continuous improvements of the segments cloud-based systems.

System analysis and administration of the division's primary cloud-based innovation systems to include VCC, VCCMax, and GalvTrac are critical components of this role to include testing and documenting new system releases, change management, assessing system performance, monitoring security, and diagnosing connectivity and system issues as they arise.

In addition, this role will be responsible for continually monitoring and proactively enhancing the security framework and performance of all Azure services to ensure the highest level of security and optimal performance at all times. This will require a continued expansion of knowledge, understanding, expertise and abilities in Azure Cloud Services as well as collaboration across development teams to ensure all system components are designed and developed for future state; continually delivering the best possible customer experience.

Critical thinking, analysis and the ability to adapt/adjust the plan as required is essential, as well as the ability to be a collaborative team member and self-directed individual contributor.

Essential Functions:

  • This position reports to Director of Business Innovation Architecture - Global Coatings and has (0) direct report and (0) indirect report.
  • Flexible schedule however must be able to work in the office 1-2 days per week.
  • Highly technical understanding and experience working with computer systems, programs, databases and cloud-services.
  • Assist in the system design, implementation, support, and maintenance of divisional cloud innovation systems.
  • Analytical with problem solving and conflict resolution skills to help identify and resolve issues with the best possible outcome.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work under pressure, set priorities, plan and organize workloads.
  • Ensure that systems and programs adhere to companywide standards and requirements.
  • Ensure that systems and programs are thoroughly tested, and all changes documented prior to installation.
  • Ensure business needs are continually being matched with the best technology solution and innovations available.
  • Work with internal and external audit to validate regulatory compliance, verify standard procedures, and ensure change management methodologies are documented, followed and approved as required.
  • The incumbent must be able to maintain a high degree of self-directed activity.


Other Important Details about the Role:

  • Within this responsibility, this person will assist with testing and validating version upgrades and new releases of innovation systems.
  • The incumbent is responsible for diagnosing, prioritizing, and tracking progress of innovation implementations and upgrades.
  • To support each of these roles and responsibilities, the incumbent must have an intimate familiarity of installed software products. These consist of Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Operating Systems (OS), Microsoft Office & Teams, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft PowerBi, MSSQL Reporting Services, and other supporting systems.


Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Preferred Bachelors with 6+ years relevant experience or Associates Degree with 8+ years relevant experience or 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience with implementing and supporting cloud-based systems and services.
  • Five or more years of System Administration experience.
  • Three to five years of experience building and managing infrastructure in Azure:
    • SQL Servers
    • Compute (e.g., Virtual Machines)
    • App Services/Function/Logic apps
    • Service Bus
    • Storage Accounts
  • Experience with Azure Active Directory/Microsoft Identity platform.
  • Strong skills in analysis, strategy, planning and deployment.
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and well organized.
  • Strong sense of urgency, high energy and passion to learn.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. No travel requirements for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Incumbent must travel to Company locations worldwide to assess and test internal control processes as directed. This position may require the incumbent to work outside during all seasons of the year, in various manufacturing and storage areas, as well as office environments. As a result, the position may require walking, standing, lifting, stooping, crawling, climbing, and occasional use of ladders.
