The Team and Role
Upstart’s Data Engineering team builds the data infrastructure and platform for our AI lending products. Upstart’s data platform team (Sub-squad within the broad data engineering squad) creates developer-friendly products that enable data discovery, governance, analytics, and reporting. The team’s mission is to promote data-driven decisions by creating the necessary tooling and frameworks in service to data engineering. You will be instrumental in defining and implementing our core infrastructure and help us realize our data-driven mission of affordable credit.
Upstart is looking for talented Infrastructure/DevOps engineers to join our core Data Platform team. As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will help architect, build, automate and scale the tools used by data engineers to build, test, monitor, and deliver their code to production.
Position Location - This role is available in the following locations: Remote (#LI-REMOTE)
Time Zone Requirements - This team operates on the West Coast time zone.
Travel Requirements - This team has regular on-site collaboration sessions. These occur a few days per quarter at the San Mateo office. If you need to travel to make these meetups, Upstart will cover all travel related expenses.
How you'll make an impact:
- Help define the future of and contribute directly to Upstart's cloud infrastructure.
- Manage and improve our CI/CD processes to make sure software development and deployment are streamlined and are as simple as possible
- Work cross-functionally to support the various data engineering teams.
- Develop proofs-of-concept and enhancements to our infrastructure tooling and automation.
- Evangelize good coding and engineering best practices while uplifting fellow engineers.
- Provide top-tier support for our services and keep them highly available.
What we're looking for:
- A willingness to learn on the job and take on tasks as needed
- Hands on experience in AWS cloud services (EC2, SQS, S3, Lambda, EKS)
- 2+ years of experience in a DevOps role
- 2+ years of experience working with Python or similar scripting languages
- DevOps/SRE knowledge and expertise in multiple areas, including scripting, IaC, automation, configuration management, and containerization/container orchestration
- Knowledge of Linux architecture, administration, troubleshooting, and production operations
- Hands-on experience on open source and enterprise application performance monitoring solutions
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Jenkins, Artifactory, HashiCorp tools, Terraform, and Ansible.
- HIgh-level understanding of Containers and Container orchestration frameworks such as Kubernetes.
- Cloud networking fundamentals.
- Microservice architecture.
