Description
We are looking for an energetic and passionate Engineer that will champion early development of new product programs in the Industrial Engineering space. Your work will involve procurement for support systems in complex manufacturing systems such as battery and drive unit assembly, castings, machining metal components, engine and transmission assembly, and fuel cells. Your strengths in team collaboration, effective communication, and integration of information provide a sound base for this position. The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment is critical to your success at General Motors.
  • Coordinate procurement & design integration activities with engineering teams, suppliers, and in-plant IE team from initial concept through prototype development and into full production.
  • Work to deliver, install & qualify commodities on time to plant and programs
  • Develop plans, status, analyze, and provide countermeasures to Launch Timing
  • Support resolution of ergonomic issues identified and tracked for the program.
  • Learn and demonstrate solid methodology and understanding of IE Tools.
  • Use AutoCAD skills to read drawings and analyze them for fit and use.
  • Provide investment and labor impacts for new program and model year studies.
  • Participate in 'Plan For Every Part' Workshops to define and align multi-functional teams in process, packaging, workstation design, material delivery, tooling, and layouts.
  • Analyze system data from current programs to improve performance and participate in Throughput Improvement (TIP) Workshops to improve current production programs.
  • Participate in Virtual Builds and Pre-Production Build events to understand new program build process, tooling, automation, sequence, quality, and test system requirements.
  • Travel to manufacturing plants in US, Canada & Mexico required.

Additional Description
Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of related IE Procurement related experience
  • Experience & understanding of Material Handling, Material Presentation, and Lean Material Strategies
  • Must have a working knowledge of ergonomics and the application of ergonomic principals to for equipment design and layout
  • Proven ability to design work operations that meet safety, quality, and efficiency requirements.
  • Capable and willing to travel (Within USA, Canada, Mexico, and abroad).

Preferred
  • Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering background
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to work to tight project deadlines.
  • Knowledge and experience in the Vehicle/Powertrain/Propulsion Development Process from design concept to program execution and launch of high-volume manufacturing.
  • Experience procuring workstation materials (Racks, Dolly, Minomi, Lift Tables, Trays, Bridge & Rail, Lift Assists, etc.)
