Description

Caterpillar's Global Hydraulics Organization within Integrated Components & Solutions Division (ICS) is looking for a person to serve as the Engineering Manager for the Hydraulic Cylinder Product Development Team.  This position reports to Global Hydraulics Chief Engineer.

The successful candidate will act as first line manager who will provide leadership to a team focused on delivering world class hydraulic cylinder products, optimized for customer requirements. The incumbent needs to coach and facilitate the development of the work group to foster collaborative relationships among themselves, with customers, suppliers, other cross functional groups, and internal customers to ensure goals are achieved. Technical competency, program management skills and organizational skills are critical.

Position requires technical depth in hydraulic product engineering, excellent human relations, interpersonal, and communications skills. Position also requires highly developed people skills for coaching and leading people. This includes the ability to draw upon and ever-increasing skills in the Caterpillar Leadership competencies - Be Strategic, Focus on the Enterprise, Global Leadership, Lead Change, Hold Self and Others Accountable, Know your Customer, Build Engagement, and Coach for Development. This position requires a person to develop highly engaged and technically capable team members, as well as managing multiple projects and assignments simultaneously that are complex in nature which support and enhance Caterpillar product performance, durability, reliability, quality, and serviceability.

Job Duties

Design responsibility for hydraulic cylinder & suspension products; accountable for meeting customer expectations for product cost, quality, and delivery (for example)

Guide technical decisions for cylinder products

Provide leadership to various levels of engineers, team leaders, and support personnel

Plan the future product portfolio, resources and developing capabilities in terms of people and technology; consciously establishing a culture that encourages innovation, partnering and collaborative relationships with a customer focus.

Lead meetings and facilitate communication across the global development teams

Contribute to multiple New Product Introduction (NPI) cylinder development projects, New Technology Integration (NTI) projects, and product cost/quality improvement projects

Aligned objectives with product groups, suppliers and manufacturing process partners

Basic Qualifications

Education - Bachelor's degree or higher in accredited Engineering field (preferably Mechanical)

Experience – 10+ years of hydraulics industry experience including 5+ years of hydraulic cylinder development experience

Top Candidates will also have

Master’s degree (or equivalent) in an accredited Engineering curriculum

15 years hydraulics industry experience, 10+ years in cylinder design

Strong analytical skills; extensive design knowledge of hydraulic components & systems

The ability to effectively develop and manage complex project plans from concept to production

An established, successful leader; demonstration of capability to lead, motivate and Influence global teams

Ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and process partners

Component design expertise on mining and construction equipment

Familiarity with cylinder component suppliers and manufacturing processes

Passion to innovate, inspire, and grow professionally

A sense of urgency balanced with a strong commitment to quality

Additional Information

The location for this position is Aurora, IL, or Mossville, IL  

Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position

This position may require 10% travel
