Head of Engineering, DevOps Products
Working at Atlassian
Atlassian can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Assuming you have eligible working rights and a sufficient time zone overlap with your team, you can choose to work remotely or return to an office as they reopen (unless it's necessary for your role to be performed in the office). Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.
When agile principles gained widespread adoption, they revolutionized the way we create products. We embraced small, cross-functional teams and one to two week sprints that produced artifacts ready for production. Now with cloud, SaaS, and always-on services, the development lifecycle is much faster. It's common for multiple development and testing stages to happen simultaneously. Teams use feature flags, progressive roll-outs and A/B tests to ensure clean, quality code deploys continuously.
This spawned an evolution from agile to DevOps, a set of practices that enable software development and IT teams to build, test, and release software faster and more reliably. Atlassian helps teams everywhere change the world through the power of software. We're now looking for an experienced technical leader to champion our mission of open, collaborative work in the world of DevOps!
The DevOps product portfolio includes Bitbucket, Statuspage, Compass, and parts of Jira for DevOps teams, all delivered as SaaS for tens of millions of users around the world. In partnership with Product & Design leadership, you will help scale the DevOps engineering organization and set a technology strategy which anticipates industry and customer direction.
The ideal candidate has led highly effective development teams of managers, engineers, and architects in the cloud software space. You'll benefit from extensive technical prowess in the cloud-native space, with experience operating at scale across a diverse set of technologies. The role will also require exceptional written and verbal communication in the pursuit of driving the DevOps mission forward.
On Your First Day, We'll Expect You to Have:
- Extensive engineering management experience, following Agile development processes with history shipping both consumer products and cloud services
- Experience as an engineering leader owning P&L responsibilities
- Experience managing managers, and a track record of successfully scaling organizations up to 200+ engineers
- Experience building and nurturing cultures of operational excellence, shipping high quality products to enterprise customers
- Ability to define and effectively communicate a long-term technical vision, and inspire the organization around a shared vision for success
- Ability to communicate directly and clearly, with a strong emphasis on careful listening and empathy, and a bias toward action
- U.S. Bachelor or higher degree, or its equivalent, in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems Management or a closely related field of study.
