Hardware Engineer
Job Purpose
What does a Hardware Engineer do?
As a Hardware Engineer, you will drive the electrical design for our smart payment terminals and POS devices that help our customers run their businesses. You will be part of a team to build new, innovative features for POS/payment devices with high quality and reliability. These are Clover devices, that handle the core card and point-of-sale processing for hundreds of thousands of merchants. Behind the scenes, we operate a cloud platform providing processing, storage and collaboration for merchants, application developers, service providers and our merchants' customers. Our devices and platform form the backbone of millions of payment interactions between merchants and their customers daily.
As a Hardware Engineer, you can look forward to:

  • Managing schematic capture and constraint-driven PCB layout and design.
  • Developing prototypes, system bring-up, debugging, design verification, and manufacturing support.
  • Driving our ODM to deliver hardware products that meet or exceed the product specification, cost and project schedule.
  • Managing device subsystems design including touch displays, batteries, input/output devices, sensors, high speed communication components, interface protocols, and receipt printers.
  • Participating in component evaluation and selection of SoCs, power ICs, batteries, displays, and other parts for use in Clover hardware.
  • Investigating new technologies to allow implementation into new products.
  • Working with suppliers and manufacturing partners
  • Solving hardware issues and tracking progress.
  • Working with senior management to define and implement technical processes and procedures focusing on customer satisfaction, efficiency, quality, and reliability.
  • Communicating within your functional team and across the company to keep information flowing
  • Supporting and collaborating with other team members to design high quality hardware.
    Basic Qualifications for consideration:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline with 7+ years of experience in electronic product design.
  • Electrical Engineering experience with a strong record of shipping consumer, medical or point of sale electronic products.
  • Experience in manufacturing bring-up and support.
  • Experience with schematic capture, board layout, and simulation tools.
  • Experience with Hardware/RF lab equipment.
  • Experience with evaluation of components to use in new products.
  • Position will require international travel.
    Preferred Qualifications for consideration:
  • Experience with hardware development for Android systems.
  • Experience designing high volume products from beginning to end and managing/leading offshore ODMs.
  • Experience in consumer electronics designing high volume, low power, and high-quality products.
  • Experience in the following areas is desirable: 3G/4G/LTE, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi product design with knowledge of de-sense, EMI, ESD, and PCB routing issues related to wireless devices.
  • Experience in EMV Payment and PCI Security certifications.
