WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time Geotechnical/Tunnel Engineer for our St. Louis, Missouri office. The successful candidate will be involved infrastructure projects in the Central region as well as projects across US. The position requires an effective team player who can work cooperatively to provide engineering services to its clients on design and construction projects.

Your Impact

  • With minimal supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, soil/water/sludge/rock samples, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface information, maps, geotechnical data, and Serve as staff geotechnical engineer during subsurface exploration and design of tunnel, trenchless, and geotechnical projects in St. Louis, and other infrastructure (highway/railroad, water/wastewater, etc) and building projects throughout Missouri and surrounding states.
  • Field Inspection & supervision of geotechnical investigation and construction for tunnels and other infrastructure and building projects.
  • Performance of geotechnical design and analysis for foundations, embankments, retaining walls, tunnels, trenchless projects and underground structures.
  • Provide support for the development and production of plans, specifications, memoranda and reports related to geotechnical and tunnel aspects of infrastructure and building engineering projects.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers and planners on projects with infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement, and development projects.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.


Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering or other related field of engineering from an ABET accredited school.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience.
  • Knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Ability to perform geotechnical design and analysis of foundations, slopes, retaining walls, tunnels and other geotechnical projects under guidance of senior staff.
  • Strong academic preparation in soil & rock mechanics.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Ability and willingness for travel and field work.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) registration in Missouri or another U.S. State or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date.
  • Candidate must be able to legally work in the US on a full time permanent basis.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master of Science degree from a graduate Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering program with an emphasis in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Working knowledge with widely used geotechnical programs, e.g. GeoStudio, DeepEX, Finite Element Modeling programs such as RS2, PLAXIS, FLAC, UDEC etc.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS.
  • Working knowlege of project planning, cost estimating, scheduling and preparation of reports; working knowlege of HeavyBid cost estimating program, Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project scheduling software.
  • Prior internship experience or employment in geotechnical or civil/structural industry.
  • Experience with geotechnical investigations, including drilling inspection, soil/rock sample identification and description, observation of packer testing and well installation.
  • Construction inspection experience related to underground construction.
