Torch Technologies, a 100 percent employee-owned company, is seeking a professional Software Developer to join the Advanced VizLab (AVL) team currently developing cutting edge visualization products including virtual training devices. Candidates applying for this position will have the opportunity to build and integrate server-side software technology with interactive visualization products for educating and training soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and civilians.

The candidate selected for this position will be a member of an agile development team working closely with other developers, artists, and subject matter experts. The ideal candidate must be able to work well both independently and within a multi-disciplinary collaborative team environment. The teams are developing both a reusable framework and customer applications using the framework.

Expectations and Responsibilities:

    • You are expected to be a positive, engaged, and contributing team member, both within the Scrum team, functional team, lab, and across the company.
    • You will be responsible for delivering or contributing to a range of gameplay features and systems including character interaction mechanics, system emulation and simulation, camera, and controls.
    • You will build and integrate software components into a fully functional software system that exceeds customer expectations.
    • You will have a focus on both fast iteration and long-term architecture while creating maintainable, testable, well-structured high-quality code.
    • You will be responsible for implementing features to a high quality, providing tools, documentation and support including automated tests and low-level debugging.
    • You will be expected to mentor junior level team members and take a leading role in architecting solutions for your team.



Job Requirements

Personal Requirements:

    • Exceptional interpersonal communications skills. Able to effectively communicate in verbal and written form.
    • Must be effective in contributing to problem-solving
    • Able to work independently, prioritize and meet deadlines.
    • Must be organized, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and understand business needs.
  • Offer advice and suggestions for improving the development process.
  • Excited to explain complex technical concepts and share knowledge with diverse audiences both internally and externally.
  • Enjoys helping mentor fellow engineers as they develop new skills and advance in their careers.
  • US Citizenship is required for this position
  • Eligibility to obtain a United States SECRET clearance is required for ongoing employment in this position


Technical Requirements:

    • Advanced understanding and experience with C++ and Java.
    • Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming.
    • Passion for developing video games, visualizations, and training applications.
    • Experience developing with game engine such as Unreal Engine or Unity.
  • Experience working in a Scrum team with examples of success.
    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering and +5 years of professional development experience.


Desired but Not Required Experience:

    • 3 years' professional working experience in either simulation, visualization, or game development an advantage.
    • Experience Designing Data Contracts and integrating with APIs.
    • 3 years' experience developing with Unreal Engine.
    • Experience developing CI/CD Pipelines with Jenkins and Gitlab.
  • Full understanding of using Software Code Repositories (Git, Perforce Helix, etc.) during development.
    • Issue tracking with Atlassian Jira.
