About the job
The Red Hat IT team is looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer to join us. In this role, you will work on an innovative IT Application and Business Delivery team focused on developing domain-centric, cloud-native HTTP and messaging APIs and web applications that serve Red Hat's partners. You'll collaborate with both local and remote team members to document, design, develop, test, operate, and maintain enterprise API management and integration solutions. You will also work on the full-stack design, development, testing, and release of both modern and traditional web applications, with a focus on the back-end and system integrations. Qualified applicants will contribute to the team's capabilities by demonstrating technical competency, exceptional communication skills, personal initiative, creativity, desire to learn, transparency, and ability to work as part of a global team. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
What you will do

  • Design, develop, document, test, maintain, and operate message-based middleware and HTTP services for internal and external customers, both in the cloud and in dedicated data centers
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain Java applications and RESTful web services, using frameworks including Spring model-view-controller (MVC) and Spring Security
  • Document use cases; create physical and logical data models
  • Work closely with domain experts to analyze and implement business requirements
  • Work closely with application development teams to standardize Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform deployment and operational patterns, tooling, and shared libraries
  • Design database schemas, indexes, and transaction boundaries within performance and scalability constraints
  • Automate infrastructure management best practices with Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV), and red Hat OpenStack Platform technologies
  • Evaluate open source solutions to meet business needs
  • Participate in periodic L3 application support rotation


What you will bring

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or other closely related field
  • 3+ years of experience performing object-oriented analysis and design
  • 3+ years of experience with Java, including Spring and Maven or other object-oriented languages
  • 3+ years of experience using Oracle, MySQL or Maria, or Mongo
  • 3+ years of experience developing applications working in an agile development environment
  • 3+ years of experience with distributed source control tools like Git or Mercurial
  • 3+ years working with continuous integration tools and processes; continuous delivery (CD) experience is a plus
  • 3+ years developing Java unit tests like JUnit or Spock
  • 3+ years working in an agile team environment
  • 3+ years working with distributed source control like Git, including branching and merging


The following are considered a plus:

  • 3+ years of experience administering Linux systems
  • 3+ years of experience with Red Hat JBoss Fuse or Apache Camel
  • 3+ years of experience with Red Hat JBoss AMQ, Apache ActiveMQ, or Apache ActiveMQ Artemis
  • 3+ years of experience working on open source projects
  • 3+ years of experience with Swagger or OpenAPI
  • 3+ years of experience with 3scale or other API gateway technologies like Kong or Envoy
  • 3+ years of experience with Spring Boot
  • 3+ years of experience with Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes
  • 3+ years of experience developing against NoSQL databases like MongoDB or Cassandra
  • 3+ years of experience developing against SQL databases like MariaDB or Oracle
  • 3+ years of experience writing automation using tools like Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or Jenkins
  • 3+ years of experience writing quality assurance (QA) automation with tools like Selenium
  • 3+ years of experience with AngularJS front-end web development
  • 3+ years of experience implementing integration design patterns, especially in a microservices or event-driven architecture
  • 3+ years of experience developing and maintaining JavaScript web app front-ends using model-view-whatever (MV*) frameworks including AngularJS or React
