At Northwestern Mutual, we are strong, innovative and growing. We invest in our people. We care and make a positive difference.
Summary:
To support our growing team, we are looking for a full-stack developer to work on our CICD Engineering team. You're the right fit if you love to solve problems and are always striving to learn new things. We're looking for self-motivated and self-driven engineers who are passionate about what they do and love technology.
As an engineer on our team, you will be immersed in modern tools and technologies to get the job done, such as AWS Cloud infrastructure and platform services, python micro-services, and a robust CI/CD pipeline. You will work in an agile and innovative environment, solving complex problems and collaborating with architects and product managers to deliver software our customers will love.
Our team is responsible for building out capabilities to help mature all of Technology at NM within the CICD space. We help build automation for delivery pipelines for application systems within a containerized, public cloud environment. These application systems support the future development of the client and planner experiences for Northwestern Mutual. Our team is located in Milwaukee and New York, and has the opportunity to travel across campuses.
Bring Your Best! What this role needs:

  • 2+ years of professional development experience.
  • Proficient in at least one programming language (Java, Javascript, Python, GO, Groovy). Python and Javascript preferred.
  • Experience building RESTful APIs.
  • Experience writing SQL.
  • Self-motivated and driven. A teammate that effectively works well with other engineers, product owners, and non-technical roles.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Sense of ownership and the ability to work with a limited set of requirements.
  • Knowledge of continuous integration and continuous deployment practices, pipelines, and automation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Problem solver who enjoys learning on the job, thinking outside the box, and bringing new ideas to the team

What you'll get to do:

  • Build day-to-day like a start-up - incrementally and iteratively - but with the security and resources of an enterprise budget.
  • Release to production early and often - you won't be working on a product for a year before it sees the light of day; we believe in MVPs.
  • Work with a hardworking, mission-driven, fun-loving team who values your input and your individuality.

Further impress us with:

  • AWS experience with platform services
  • Strong front-end tool belt (such as, React/Redux, TypeScript ES6, Webpack, SaaS)
  • Exposure to Docker and GitLab CI
  • Exposure to DevOps tools (Kubernetes, Git, Ansible/Terraform)
  • Knowledge and exposure of engineering standards; including analyzing, designing, developing, deploying and supporting software solutions and infrastructure.
