Your Opportunity

Does work-life balance for your current employer mean that you devote most of your life to them and you get the balance of what's left? At New Relic, we take this balance very seriously. Team members generally work 40-45 hours per week, solving exciting challenges in a team environment where efficiency and skill are rewarded via promotions and quarterly, peer-nominated rewards programs.

If this sounds appealing to you, we are looking for an experienced full-stack software engineer and technical leader to join our Error Tracking team. You're ready for this position if you've spent years engineering full stack and/or high-throughput, highly-available production systems that scale easily. You've had plenty of front-line experience in the past but now you're more interested in how complex systems work together to deliver value to our customers. You've made mistakes (probably lots of them) and learned from them. You've also been a part of phenomenal successes where you've kept the customer front-and-center in your designs.

We are excited to consider a remote engineer! Remote team members will be expected to work out of their home office.
What You'll Do

The members of this engineering team design, develop and operate New Relic's Error Inbox product, which helps our customers prioritize the most important errors every day. With it, they can focus on delivering a great customer experience rather than resolving what issues are affecting their users the most, find contextual information about the error right at their fingertips, and work on a resolution, all without leaving New Relic. Since we launched in May, it's been our fastest growing product, used by tens of thousands of users monthly and thousands every day!

Our engineers guide the design, construction/development, documentation, maintenance, and scale of our high-performance back-end streaming and event-handling systems as well as the customer-facing UI and APIs (we are a full-stack team!). They are hands-on in the code and use their knowledge and skills to help the team bake automation, quality, reliability, scalability, and simplicity into everything we do. We hire excellent engineers and you will mentor them to develop maintainable systems that are easy to operate. They lead by example and work closely with engineering management, product management, technical support, and design to build the right features to ensure our customers understand their digital business.

We have a globally distributed development organization with teams spanning a nine-hour swath of timezones, so we value the ability to communicate in written form, ranging from Slack to team notes. The Error Tracking team works remotely from their home offices.
Your Qualifications

Must-haves:

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience using modern object-oriented programming languages such as Java, C#, or C++.
  • Experience with Javascript, TypeScript, React, and CSS
  • Experience with relational data stores such as PostgreSQL
  • Knowledge of full-stack software engineering principles
  • Experience designing for and deploying applications to common cloud provider infrastructure such as Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure
  • Collaborative and able to successfully navigate multi-functional teams within the organization

Nice-to-haves:

  • In-depth Java development experience (e.g. knowledge of how the GC works, multi-threading, etc.)
  • Experience building and operating highly-scalable distributed systems that are fault-tolerant
  • Experience with distributed messaging systems such as Kafka
  • Experience developing GraphQL APIs
  • Experience with Selenium or other test automation tools
  • Experience with Terraform or other infrastructure as code tooling
  • Experience with AWS EKS, SQS, S3, Redis, ElasticSearch, and/or Kubernetes
  • Experience with Git source control and GitHub Enterprise
  • Familiarity with Kanban agile methodology
  • Experience on a software product team
