Role Summary

Today we use 3rd party products for RRUs to go with our 4G and 5G OpenRAN solutions. To expand our product portfolio, we will develop own high-end Massive MIMO radios. Focus will be on advanced technology and product development together with customers. We will progress this as a start-up company in Mavenir and leverage the whole organization. As an FPGA-SoC Platform Embedded SW Engineer you will join the Radio Development Unit team and will be responsible for design and development of software interfaces drivers for the OpenRAN 5G and 4G mMIMO radio platforms. You will play critical role in design and development of embedded software including device drivers, boot loaders, FPGA/SoC drivers and API for Radio functions. This position will be based in Richardson, Texas

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand functional specification of the radio product and derive specific requirements for software interface to the FPGA/SoC platform that realizes the ORAN 7.2 based mMIMO 4G/5G Radio
  • Design and develop embedded software that runs on the target radio platform and integrate with the radio functions that include ORAN Interface protocol, Low PHY, Beamforming and digital front end, RF control functions
  • Design and develop embedded software that will also manage the FPGA/SoC Platform firmware, packaging, release, and module level validation of the radio platform functions
  • Design and development of embedded software that will include use of real time operating systems, creating or modifying device drivers, creating API and Hardware Abstraction Layer software for mMIMO Radio hardware platforms
  • Contribute to FPGA/SoC design for testability by identifying required test access points and API for effective integration and validation using embedded platform software
  • Develop utilities for accessing, configuring various peripherals in the radio platform
  • Plan and define HW/SW Integration including detail integration activities, integration test plan, and development/test environment and provide detail test and regression test results
  • Establish continuous integration framework and automation of the process where the FPGA/SoC platform firmware release can be regression tested continuously across multiple builds and releases


Work with other team members such as FPGA engineers, RF Engineers to close the implementation and testing gaps between embedded software and the FPGA/SoC based Radio platform

Job Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in real-time, embedded software development
  • Must have working experience of real-time, embedded linux kernel and device drivers
  • Must have hands-on experience working with FPGA, SoC, or micro controllers
  • Working knowledge of ARM, RISC processor architecture will be a plus
  • In depth understanding of Linux Kernel architecture such as memory management, interrupts, timers, file systems etc. as well as in fundamental concepts in pre-emption, interrupt handling, multi-task scheduling, etc.
  • Experience with diagnosis of system issues at hardware, kernel and application software level
  • Experience with software profiling and optimization techniques
  • Strong coding skills in C, C++, Python, and shell scripting
  • Experience with Assembly language is plus
  • Extensive hands-on experience using JTAG and other emulators for debugging
  • Experience with flash memory drivers (NAND, NOR, eMMC, UFS, NVMe, EEPROM)
  • Experience with GPIO, PCIe, I2C, SPI, RTC, QSPI
  • Experience with drivers for high-speed DMA
  • Experience in developing drivers for memory mapped functionality
  • Deep understanding and experience with modern boot loaders such as u-boot
  • Familiar with secure boot in embedded devices
  • Experience in developing BSP (Board Support Package) for emedded devices
  • Ability to read hardware schematics to diagnose platform level firmware or hardware issues
  • TCP/IP, Ethernet, Networking knowledge is essential
  • Linux kernel configuration and build experience is a must
  • Experience with Agile development environment
  • Experience with Continuous Integration framework is a plus
  • Experience with Test Automation is preferred
  • Excellent inter-personal and leadership skills

  • Ability to quickly grasp and adapt to new technologies and concepts


MS Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
