Company Overview:

Relativity is the first and only company to automate aerospace manufacturing by integrating intelligent robotics, software, and proprietary metal 3D printing technology. Disrupting 60 years of aerospace, Relativity offers a radically simplified supply chain, building a rocket with 100x fewer parts in less than 60 days. Our long-term goal is to upgrade humanity’s industrial base on Earth and on Mars.

Team:

We are looking for a Fluids Engineer to join our growing team at our testing site located at Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. As a Fluids Engineer, you will be at the forefront of creating world class orbital launch and test facilities. In order to be successful in this role, you thrive in ambiguity and are able to lead projects from concept through completion. Ideally, you come from a fast paced, aerospace environment, having completed difficult projects while collaborating effectively with other key groups. Pressure around timelines, cost, and quality bring out the best in you, while finding creative ways to optimize across trade-offs. Excellent judgement and analytical skills is a must, as well as a high degree of professional ethics and integrity. You bring curiosity for our unique technology and our production processes and are eager to develop next generation launch & test sites.

This position is part of our Launch, Infrastructure, and Facilities organization, which oversee new construction projects and facility operations and maintenance. Our facilities are a key part to Relativity’s success in creating the first autonomous rocket factory, and delivering industry-leading launch services to our customers.

What you’ll do:

At Relativity, we are redefining the way rockets are designed, built and flown.  Starting with our proprietary and cutting-edge 3D printing technology, we aim to simplify and automate the manufacturing of rockets. This revolutionary approach enables us to make launch vehicles faster and more cost efficiently, allowing us to offer cost-efficient and short lead-time launch services to customers.

As a Fluids Engineer, you will have a major role in the development, build, and operation of test and launch GSE fluid systems and supporting infrastructure at Relativity’s test and launch sites.  Systems include liquid oxygen, liquid natural gas, gaseous helium, liquid and gaseous nitrogen, hydraulics, water, and environmental control systems.

What you need to know:

As a Fluids Engineer at Relativity, you will be at the forefront of creating world class engine and launch vehicle test & launch sites.  You enjoy working with teams and are able to work autonomously to ensure project completion.  You have a strong background in engineering fundamentals, field engineering, and project management, and you have a passion for taking ideas and designs and making them become a reality in the built environment.  You are a learner and doer at heart, who continuously engages across technical and operations teams to achieve amazing outcomes.  You are willing to travel up 50% to support ongoing design, construction, testing, and operations across Relativity’s test and launch sites.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline (mechanical, chemical, aerospace, or equivalent)
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in the launch industry working with fluid systems
  • Experience with various standards (ASTM, ASME, NASA, DoD, NFPA, API, and SAE)
  • Fluid analysis abilities (hand-calcs)
  • Low-Pressure and High-Pressure fluid system experience
  • Experience with CAD (NX, Creo, Solidworks)
  • Ability to create and read P&IDs
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated customer service excellence and ability to communicate highly effectively in verbal/written form with internal and external customers
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Experience with direct responsibility driving projects forward while managing and reporting progress to remote management.
  • High organizational skills in managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to design and understand precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and modeling applications
  • Ability to perform and manage technically complex projects using independent judgment and personal initiative
  • Recognize and act on opportunities; maintain flexibility to adjust as requirements and priorities shift or constraints change and anticipate them when possible.
  • Ability to work in dynamic environments to execute real-time tasks in tight operation windows

Nice to haves but not required:

  • 6+ years’ experience with advanced degree
  • ANSYS and piping analysis software (such as Caesar or Bentley Autopipe)
  • Analytical abilities for compressible and incompressible flow
  • Experience with Launch GSE Operations
  • Cryogenic Experience
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.)
  • Experience Working with DOD, USAF, and NASA
  • Experience working with AFSPCMAN 91-710
  • Experience, training, and education in three of the above
