Fastening Engineering Process SME - Manufacturing Engineering

In this role you will be to be the subject matter expert on Fastening Processes, technologies, and requirements for Fastening for Global Assembly plants and support groups. You will be the interface between the requirements and the assembly plants, and need to be able to support both, and explain and train groups on the requirements, and adjust the requirements, as needed, with proper data and investigations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Maintain and keep the fastening lab running throughout the year in cooperation with Atlas-Copco, Plant Floor Systems and IT.
- Continue PF6000 validation and support execution of tools into GM sites. Launch and introduction support/guidance.
- Develop hybrid fieldbus files for torque controllers as needed.
- Continue to grow and maintain Atlas Copco/GM Share Point site. Maintain the site with training, documentation, and templates for guidance on the use and programming of the torque controller equipment.
- Maintain license management for North American Assembly sites throughout the year
- Track conversion of the north American and global sites (of deployment) for Tools Net versions to newer updates.
- Support IT with Lab testing of Toolsnet version releases
- Build a good working relationship with outside tooling vendors to help support our tooling needs.
- Manage all aspects of torque requirements and standards to assist the vehicle assembly plants and VAAs to be compliant with all GM Global Requirements as well as being prepared for torque audits
- Update / Maintain Standards and requirements, with an eye on the future, and understanding what is being used in the assembly plants currently, while balancing the impact of new changes to the assembly plants
- Support Torque Audits at Assembly sites (TCRs)
- Assist with GRA investigation, PRTS*S, PRDs (Field Actions) when asked, to support reduction of warranty costs from fastening (support safety and OIR group) as needed.
- Lead interface with Tooling Supplier(s) for Multi year contract and manage the relationships to "deliver certainty and validated tooling solutions".
- Investigate / Benchmark and stay abreast of new technologies and validate solutions (to focus on how it will work with our GM infrastructure) where appropriate.
- Drive One Team solutions across the GMNA assembly plants
- Run Expert Team meetings for the GMNA assembly plant torque coordinators
- Support Future Vehicle development - Pre-Production Builds at assembly plants, pre-prod operations, etc.
- Support future technology development, and integration into existing infrastructures at the assembly plants and VAAs (and validation, where needed).
- Support Integration of One ME (body shop, GPS, etc) - driving synergy where possible towards "One ME" vision.
- Provide Body Shop Support for torque requirements, development of and execution of requirements, including common standardized work where applicable.
- GPS Interfaces - Maintain relationship with GPS fastening experts to help bridge the differences between VAPs (Vehicle Assembly plants) and GPS facilities, and requirements.
- Support the assembly plants with development of torque training programs to support the requirements and effective problem solving to achieve torque quality in our VAPs and VAAs.
Additional Description
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent training/experience, Technical degree preferred
- Strong Problem solving ability
- Ability to interpret and analyze large amounts of data
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Self Starter and ability to handle multiple projects
- Strong Interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple challenging projects and assignments with high level of autonomy and accountability for results
Preferred Skills:
- Strong technical knowledge of Fastening Systems and Fastening Technologies and the ability to apply these concepts within a manufacturing environment.
- Some Knowledge/prior experience working with Machine Controls systems.
- Ability to provide technical direction to other SME's
- Proven ability in project management skills and ability to teach others
- Experience in manufacturing plants 3-5 years
- Experience with tooling or tooling design
