Freemium is an R&D department of Spotify that focuses on new users, new markets, and new experiences. The squad strives to grow Spotify’s user base via organic search traffic by crafting a technical foundation, new content experiences, and evangelism for the wider web community.

 

We are an autonomous growth product team, proactively finding opportunities to drive MAU (monthly active users) and captivate our users' attention by bringing awareness and engagement with our brand.

 

Our work is experimental in nature, where the engineering team is responsible for building outstanding technical solutions and is also deeply involved in the ideation part of the process. We work closely with user researchers, data scientists, and designers to build hypotheses around opportunities related to specific cultures, regions, or markets. These hypotheses are tested by building A/B tests and prototypes and rolling them out to our millions of users.

 

We are looking for a thoughtful, well-rounded experienced web engineer to join our team and help build web properties millions of people use every single day to discover and listen to music and podcasts. You will join a healthy and high-performing team, continuously improving our engineering practices, delivering state-of-the-art technology while keeping it fun.

 

Above all, your work will change the way the world experiences audio.

What you'll do:

  • Work across the entire web stack, with modern web frameworks (Next.js, React andNode.js), distributed computing, and public cloud platforms (GKE)
  • Ideate and implement technical SEO foundations
  • Build top of funnel user experiences to drive sign-ups and activate users
  • Scale-up others’ skills and provide mentorship along the way
  • Evangelize SEO for the wider web community and guide other Spotify teams to help them improve their visibility on Search Engines through SEO

Who you are:

  • Have experience being a technical lead, including project management, delegation, and facilitating communication across teams, on projects with multiple cross-functional contributors
  • Passionate about software engineering best practices and love to have an impact on a large-scale tech problem
  • Have a background in building web products at scale and experience working in a high-growth tech company on a consumer-facing product
  • Have an intermediate to sophisticated understanding of JS concepts and web architecture patterns
  • You have a quality approach, delivering high-quality products and supporting others to maintain a high standard
  • Comfortable working collaboratively on a cross-functional team and reaching out and working with different squads
  • You enjoy learning as well as mentoring and passionate about your work, aspiring towards the goals of the team and, ultimately, the Spotify mission -- “giving a million creative artists the opportunity to live off their art and billions of fans the opportunity to enjoy and be inspired by it"
