As a software engineer on the Credit Platform Data team, you will help build and enhance a suite of tools that handle and process data; hence enabling our internal PayPal business units to consume the data for day to day business functionality. We need you to assist us in developing high-quality, high-performing, and secure data integration and ETL processes and participate in all aspects of the development including analysis, design, coding, security, testing, and production releases. You will be delivering new features, reacting to customer feedback, helping to ensure quality, working closely with our product team, and ensuring compliance. This will include developing new features, enhancements, and bug fixes. You'll work closely with our Product team in an agile environment to bring features from conception to launch. Furthermore, you will participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and shared knowledge and collaborate with other teams across Credit to ensure transparency and effective delivery.

In this role, the individual will be part of the Credit data engineering team and have the following responsibilities (not an exhaustive list).

Participate and collaborate with cross-functional, global teams to understand the business requirements and deliver solutions that can scale.

Perform all aspects of database and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) development life cycle

Develop efficient ETL solutions utilizing Informatica, Control-M, Unix shell scripts, and/or other technologies to ETL data from/to complex files and/or databases (i.e., Oracle, Postgres, Teradata, BigData) and cloud computing services (AWS/GCP)

Develop complex SQL queries

Perform all phases of testing for other developers, including creating test cases, test executions, creating test data, documenting results, reporting bugs to developers

Produce clear, thorough, detailed technical designs from business and functional requirements

Provide appropriate work estimates based on business and functional requirements.

Participate in design, code, test case reviews, and provide useful feedback and recommendations to team members

Proactively anticipate problems and appropriately communicate to the team and management in a timely manner.

Adapt quickly and work in a fast-paced environment

Produce quality deliverables

Apply creative and out of the box thinking

Communicate effectively with different types and levels of audiences, verbally and in writing

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or related field
  • Min. of 7 years' experience as a developer of ETL applications using Informatica
  • Min. of 7 years' experience in Oracle DB development
  • Experience writing advanced SQL
  • Experience developing complex mappings, sessions and workflows with Informatica Power Exchange
  • Experience with ETL, job scheduling, and batch processing concepts
  • Experience using source control like Subversion, GIT, etc.
  • Experience in shell scripting in Unix/Linux
  • Ability to translate business requirements to technical specifications and design documents and source to target mapping documents
  • Ability to produce quality work within tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills
  • Strong understanding of testing methodologies
  • Must be resourceful, organized, and detail-oriented
  • Adaptable, able to learn at an accelerated pace, re-prioritize work based on changing requirements and priorities
  • Experience working in Agile methodology (Scrum, Sprints, Kanban)
  • Team player, flexible, multi-tasking with a passion for learning new areas
  • Background in Finance / Banking industry is a huge plus
  • Experience in any of the following areas would also be a plus:


  • Control-M
  • Encryption / Decryption practices
  • Data Quality and Profiling methodologies and/or tools
  • AWS, GCP, Oracle, Postgres, Big Data, Teradata, Hadoop
  • Informatica, Spark, UC4, Java, Python
  • Database and Informatica performance tuning techniques
