Role Summary:

The Ergonomics Engineer provides key knowledge on equipment, process, operation design to prevent future injuries and illnesses. This position will coach and train diverse functional groups such as manufacturing, design, and operations on the principles of applied ergonomics. This position will be a key collaborator to aid on design, test, and buy off for equipment/processes before they enter the manufacturing environment. This position collaborates with other Ergonomics Engineers to elaborate, maintain, and apply ergonomic process, guidelines, tools, and new technologies for different functional groups.

The ideal candidate is organized, self-motivated and has great communication skills as they need to be able to understand complex manufacturing environments and able to communicate with different functional groups with diverse interests and backgrounds. Flexibility and adaptability will benefit this position greatly as it will work in a fast paced, multi-cultural, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support different functional teams on the design and evaluation of existing/future workstations regarding ergonomic risks
  • Collaborate with other Ergonomic Engineers to elaborate, maintain, and apply Ergonomic programs/systems in different areas
  • Conduct ergonomics training and educate a diverse group of people in the organization as required.
  • Participate on workshops, virtual builds, and/or buyoff events for new manufacturing equipment.
  • Influence human behaviors to reduce workplace risks.
  • Document and maintain best practices related to Ergonomics
  • Develop and deliver training to different functional groups
  • Supports on investigation of new applied Ergonomics Technologies (Exoskeletons, Wearable Technology, etc.)
  • Evaluate Workstations/Operations based on Ergonomic Risks Assessments
  • Utilize CAD, DELMIA, and other technologies to identify and solve ergonomic issues
  • Recommend corrective actions, and lead teams to completion, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline
  • Master’s degree in Ergonomics, Human Factors, Kinesiology, or related degree (preferred)
  • At least 5 years ergonomics experience in different locations, manufacturing – Automotive experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of ISO, USCAR ergonomic design standards
  • Knowledge of ergonomic risk assessments: NIOSH lifting equation, Snook Tables, Fatigue Analysis, OCRA, SI, HAL, 3DSSPP, Biomechanical analysis, MAC, RAPP, QEC, RULA, REBA, Anthropometric tables, Duty Cycle Equation, and other Ergonomic Tools.
  • Knowledge on Ergonomic simulation software (Jack, DELMIA)
  • Familiarity with data and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Understanding of incident and injury prevention programs.
  • Experience implementing, training, and maintaining ergonomic programs/systems such as Ergonomic Risk Assessments, Simulations, Job Rotation, Break Periods, and Ergonomic Guidelines for different types of operations.
  • Must be able to travel up to 30%
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point.
  • Skills in: Smartsheets, Confluence, SharePoint desired
  • Associate Ergonomics Professional (AEP) or eligible
  • Certified Ergonomics Professional (CPE) or eligible (preferred)
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
