Raytheon Intelligence and Space (RIS) is looking for a Software Configuration Engineer to support our EPIC program based out of Riverdale, Maryland. Remote/full time telecommuting is available for this position.

In this role, you will work with an amazing team of engineers to design and develop the Earth Prediction Innovation Center (EPIC), an extramural center that will unite academia, industry and government to help create the most user-friendly and user-accessible comprehensive Earth modeling system. What You will Get to Do:

As a Software Configuration Engineer, you will play a crucial role in developing the Earth Prediction Innovation Center (EPIC) for NOAA. You will work in a dynamic Agile development environment to modernize science-driven applications for operations on cloud and on-prem HPC platforms. EPIC provides acceleration community-developed scientific and technological enhancements into the operational applications for Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) and improved Research to Operations (R2O).

Responsibilities and duties will include:

  • Coordinating the deployment of new software baselines across the environment, following the controlled process documented in the EPIC Release Management Plan.
  • Triggering the final build for validation (to include unit, integration, system, and security testing as applicable) and place the resulting build into an Apache Archiva instance within NOAA.
  • Archiving the code as a release baseline into an Apache Archiva instance within NOAA.
  • Ensuring the code remains under proper CM given the community development nature of EPIC, to include management of the GitHub and Apache Archiva repositories, along with an Ansible AWX configuration management engine.
  • Conducting regular release management meetings to provide a collaborative forum for the Scrum Master and System Engineering IPT to communicate progress, dependencies, and risks associated with the releases.


You will Bring These Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and at least 2 years of prior relevant experience or an advanced Degree in a related field and less than 2 years of experience.
  • Recent automated testing experience.
  • Recent experience using a version control system for baselining source code.
  • Recent experience writing and enforcing configuration management plans, policies, and/or procedures.
  • Knowledge and understanding of application hosting, with experience working in a Commercial Infrastructure as a Service (IAAS) or Platform as Service (PAAS) Cloud environment.
  • Experience performing change control and configuration audits.


Security Clearance - The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

It Would Be Great if You Also Had:

  • Experience working in Lean Agile frameworks such as Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and Enterprise Scrum (eScrum).
  • Experience supporting the Software Development Lifecycle throughout all stages.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good experience in preparing IT technical documents.
  • Experience using automated CM tools for IT Service Management.
