Job Purpose:
This role will provide computer and technical advice and counsel to IT and customer management and IT project teams for end user devices; expertise is required as it relates to the most complex problems as well as for new and existing systems development and support efforts within the Desktop Engineering team scope, that of which is global end user device and software solution management.
Description:
Primary responsibilities include: 1. Solution development of software and hardware installed on endpoints. 2. Develop and implement a technical roadmap for end user device hardware and software supported by the Desktop Engineering team.
This Enterprise End User Computing Architect must:

  • Develop concepts and architecture for hardware, software, based on operational issues, customer needs, customer impacts, and/or industry trends; and supports the introduction of new technology;
  • Provide expert leadership for end user device operating system(s);
  • Works on complex technical problem identification and resolution, including responding to off-shift and weekend support calls as needed;
  • Work with customer/operations management to develop plans to minimize the technical and/or business impact of operating system hardware or desktop software changes.
  • Evaluate new software and hardware technology and develop corporate or departmental standards;
  • Meet with department heads, managers, supervisors, vendors, and others, to solicit cooperation and resolve problems that arise for the Desktop Engineering and PC Lifecycle Management team(s);
  • Typically serves as expert on several projects;
  • The position manages the completion of its own work assignments and coordinates work with others in addition to mentoring less experienced team members;
  • Have a sense of urgency to manage user issues and proven problem-solving capabilities.


Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, or related technical field or equivalent experience in IT
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience supporting and developing end user desktop hardware and software solutions
  • High proficiency in Windows operating system support and management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, attention to detail and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical skills are required and the ability to listen to others is important to this position
  • Understanding of the Caterpillar organization is required.


Top Candidate Will Also Have:

  • Proficient in Apple and Linux (Ubuntu) operating system support and management
  • Experience with scripting technologies
  • Experience with various desktop solutions such as Citrix, Windows Virtual Desktop, Remote Desktop, and browsers
  • Experience with Office 365 solution support
