This position represents the journey level position within design engineering. The key role of a Sr. Design Engineer is that of contributor to the planning and delivery of a project. This role will be accountable for contributing to the concept, development, and design of complex components, subsystems, or processes for US Defense projects. It also requires someone to perform complex analysis work, identify design problems, and resolve problems.
Although this position may be the transition from individual contributor to team leadership, the major focus of the job is on technical delivery. Incumbents may work more directly with different units, suppliers, customers, and/or other teams. This requires the ability to communicate technical information in a concise and accurate manner. Decisions made may affect the project team and its delivery of the project. Decisions may significantly impact on negotiations with suppliers, leveraging new technologies, warranty, costs, sales, and customer perception.
Basic Qualifications:
* Bachelor degree from an accredited engineering curriculum
* At least 9 to 12 years relevant design experience required or a masters degree in Engineering plus 6 to 8 years of relevant experience
* Knowledge of Caterpillar engine product line and experience with Caterpillar engineering and production systems
* Strong technical and analytical skills
* Proficiency with Teamcenter Engineering
* Emphasis on initiative and self-starting tasks
* Strong communication skills
* Must be a U.S. Citizen, unfortunately we cannot accept applications from dual citizens
Top candidates will also have:
* Bachelors in Electrical Engineering
* Electrical systems design and analysis experience
* Master's degree (or international equivalent) in an accredited Engineering Program
* Engine L3, L4, and / or L5 design experience is highly desired
* Familiarity with Cat Defense processes and product requirements
* Caterpillar NPI process experience (internal only) is desired

This position involves items or information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), controlled for national security or other reasons under the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and involves work subject to the requirements of Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPI). Therefore, in order to satisfy the requirements for this position, the successful applicant must be a U.S. citizen; not hold dual citizenship with another country; and present evidence of their citizenship. The successful applicant must pass a U.S. government background check and be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
