We are looking for a dynamic, organized self-starter with leadership experience to join Resource Industries as the Engineering Manager for the Engineering Data Analysis Team.
Never in Caterpillar's history has data exploration been so critical to our future success. Caterpillar engineers are flooded with massive amounts of engineering data from test cells, proving grounds, field-follow, and exponentially growing telematics data. Engineers must harness this data, use it to predict problems, identify new opportunities, and make smarter decisions.
The Engineering Data Analysis team, within the Virtual Product Development (VPD) Division offers world-class engineering data analysis tools. The team develops, validates and deploys analysis tools to over 3500 Caterpillar users and third-party suppliers globally. The regional support and development teams located at the global engineering R&D headquarter (Mossville, IL) and the India Engineering Design Center (Chennai) provide expert analysis, custom solutions, support and training, enabling users to make informed decisions, improving product performance, quality, and durability, leading to improved Caterpillar products for our customers.
The Engineering Data Analysis team has been consistently providing users with high value data analysis solutions and support at the lowest cost compared to all comparable commercial data analysis tools by leveraging 25+ years of Engineering Data Analysis Development that is specific and specialized to meet Caterpillar needs.
Job Duties
Manage team of 10 on prem/remote engineers and software developers as well as directing the work of 10 team members in India.
Develop and execute annual budget of $2.5M.
Complete the final stages of a multi-year plan to move the teams' tools suite to a long-term supportable platform that will meet Caterpillar's future and expanding data engineering analysis needs.
Leverage existing partnerships and form new partnerships with internal organizations and testing groups to provide timely solutions for their data analysis needs
Manage vendor relations for several major VPD commercial software tools with contracts exceeding $14M
Basic Qualifications
Position requires a four-year degree from an accredited college or university.
Software development and coding experience
8-10 years of progressively complex experience in engineering or product development
3+ years of experience in team leadership
Top Candidates will also have
Experience with custom and/or commercial data analysis software and/or data acquisition systems (DATK, D2D, DIAdem, NCode, DeweSoft, Vector CANape, ATI Vision etc.)
Ability to work multiple projects simultaneously and to make sound priority decisions
Digital Signal processing knowledge and experience
Basic fatigue/structural analysis understanding
Experience in Agile, Azure/DevOp, source code management
Experience in using third party development libraries APIs and data file formats such as HDF5, MF4, MFD, DXD
Programing experience in C/C++, Java, Python
Highly developed people skills for coaching and leading people.
Ability to draw upon and ever-increasing skills in the Caterpillar Leadership competencies - Be Strategic, Focus on the Enterprise, Global Leadership, Lead Change, Hold Self and Others Accountable, Know your Customer, Build Engagement, and Coach for Development.
Exceptional problem-solving skills
