Engineering Manager

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Big Data Infrastructure team! Our Big Data Infrastructure team provides the foundational set of platforms that standardize data collection, data processing, and efficient data storage for all feature teams at Snap. We work with various teams across Snap to manage their data needs at scale (business analytics, ML ranking signals, operational logs) and leverage the benefits of managed infrastructure; cost efficiency, cloud vendor partnerships, shared scaling, and new technology adoption.
We’re looking for an engineering leader with outstanding technical and management skills to manage and grow a set of highly talented engineers, deliver a set of core platform technologies, and work with various teams across the entire stack to drive the availability and efficiency of our backend infrastructure.
What you’ll do:
Evangelize and enable reliability best practices and improvements across Snap’s entire engineering community
Drive the technical and organizational roadmap for the team
Build and grow a team of exceptional software engineers and technical leaders
Influence key decisions on architecture and implementation of scalable, reliable, and cost-effective engineering solutions
Iterate quickly without compromising quality and raise the bar on operational excellence
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Manage and develop a team of diligent, responsive, creative, smart, and kind Engineers by providing feedback, coaching, and mentorship on a regular basis
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence and convey messages to a wide range of stakeholders
Experience making critical decisions for complex technical issues in real-time, considering timelines and urgency
Hands-on knowledge of cloud infrastructure and operational excellence patterns and practices
Minimum Qualifications:
BS/BA degree or equivalent years of experience
5+ years of software engineering experience
3+ years of cloud infrastructure experience
2+ years of experience leading a team
2+ years of program management experience, driving large-scale engineering changes via consensus
Preferred Qualifications:
Someone who loves to learn, and is passionate about helping others
Experience with Big Data, Cloud services (GCP, AWS), incident management, and post mortems
Experience with technologies: AWS Kinesis, AWS EMR, AWS Glue, AWS Redshift, GCP Dataflow, GCP Dataproc, GCP BigQuery, Kafka, Google Kubernetes
Experience working with high-scale distributed systems
