About the job
The Red Hat Ecosystem Engineering team is looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Telco team. In this role, you will lead a geographically distributed team or teams of engineers that ensures our Telco partners have a positive experience collaborating with Red Hat. You will collaborate with multiple Red Hat engineering teams and open source communities around the globe, empowering your team to meet ambitious goals and to be accountable for their work. To be successful in this role, you'll need to be able to acutely manage the balance between business priorities and team capacity, embracing and amplifying the Red Hat core values of freedom, courage, commitment, and accountability. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
What you will do

  • Manage a team that provides advisory consulting and support, knowledge sharing via workshops or other means, and contribute to tools that enable our telco partners to use our products as a platform for telco workloads or solutions
  • Work with product managers, account managers, and other teams to ensure delivery timelines and generated artifacts meet consistent expectations
  • Coordinate with cross-functional managers and teams on documentation, product management, support, and quality engineering (QE) to coordinate tasks necessary for releasing and maintaining quality software
  • Proactively direct the team for continuous learning and improvement in a rapidly changing environment
  • Champion your team during tight schedules, close deadlines, and ever changing priorities
  • Promote the team's work through blogs, web postings, or conference talks
  • Coordinate knowledge sharing within and outside the company
  • Lead all associates in managing their career growth and development
  • Develop associates by encouraging and empowering them to explore new technologies and seek out challenging assignments


What you will bring

  • 3+ years of experience managing software, system, or DevOps engineers
  • 3+ years of experience in an outward facing role
  • Proficiency in Linux operation and administration
  • Temperament and tenacity to work with external and internal partners
  • Proficient written and verbal English communication skills
  • Experience working within an agile development framework
  • Understanding of open source development models and community interactions
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent working experience
  • Flexibility to work with a widely distributed and remote team
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, balance priorities, and multiple schedules


The following are considered a plus:

  • Contributing to open source communities
  • Experience with Red Hat OpenShift and Red Hat CoreOS
  • Familiarity with deploying infrastructure and applications with container-related technologies like Kubernetes, docker, etcd
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies like libvirt, Red Hat Virtualization, or OpenShift Virtualization or KubeVirt
  • Experience with Linux system programming (network communication, shared memory, process initiation, etc), in a programing language or scripting language
  • Familiarity with using, supporting, or troubleshooting various virtual network functions (VNFs) or cloud network functions (CNFs)


Telco specific knowledge and experience in:

  • High availability
  • Performance characterization and optimization
  • Network functions virtualization (NFV) architecture
  • Edge designs
  • O-RAN architecture
