Job DescriptionAs an Engineering Manager in the Supply Chain – Inbound Transportation organization, you'll lead a talented group of engineers who are responsible for designing and developing highly available, robust, and scalable solutions to support Nordstrom’s Supply Chain Transportation ecosystem. This position plays a key role in building a platform to improve tracking of inventory shipments into, and throughout, Nordstrom’s supply chain network. This includes shipments from overseas and domestic vendors, consolidators, and carriers, as well as transfers among Nordstrom facilities and stores. Optimizing transportation visibility directly supports Nordstrom’s retail and e-commerce growth.

You are a highly technical leader with a bias towards action and the ability to drive consensus. You are comfortable discussing software architecture and leveraging data to influence decisions. You have a proven understanding of the fundamentals of agile processes, deep knowledge of the software development lifecycle, and experience to draw from that helps you build towards a future state while making smart tradeoffs to meet current objectives. You are a strong mentor who knows how to develop talent. You are a creative problem solver, and you know how to measure and improve your products and teams. 

Key initiatives that you will drive…

Transform the Nordstrom Supply Chain Transportation Platform, integrating state-of-the-art Transportation Management Systems

Develop systems that support shipment tracking through a complex network of vendors, consolidators, carriers, distribution/fulfillment facilities, as well as stores

Integrate shipment tracking data with Nordstrom Supply Chain Warehouse Management Systems, Merchandising Systems, and an Analytics Platform

Help modernize the Nordstrom Supply Chain communications backbone

A day in the life… 

Responsible for architecture and solution level design at the team level

Influence quality standards and understand, identify, and measure across an entire solution 

Assist in enhancing department vision and strategies to support company goals and receive guidance from more senior leaders

Create training opportunities for team to learn the latest technologies and methodologies

Ensure team has the tools, resources, and information they need to be successful

Hire capable and motivated talent/teams that can deliver swiftly and predictably, adjusting in an agile fashion to deliver solutions aligned with business needs

Contribute to architecture, coding, test plans, project plans, deployment planning and operations to drive excellence and lead team towards its goals

Employ continuous improvement methodologies across own team (e.g. quantify impacts to customer first, eliminate waste, increase productivity, iterate quickly, shorten feedback loop, create relevant KPIs)

You own this if you have… 

5+ years of hands-on professional experience in delivering quality software, preferably for middle-tier and backend services

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering 

2+ years leading teams

Proficiency in an Object-Oriented language, preferably Java

Proven track record of delivering well designed systems with hands-on experience ranging from designing and architecting, building for scale and testing for performance.

Experience with public cloud technologies, proficiency with AWS a plus.

Working knowledge of Kafka streaming technologies and Kubernetes

Experience with dev-ops best practices, CI/CD, alerting, monitoring, A/B testing and 24/7 production support.

Experience with agile software development, such as SCRUM or Kanban.

Supply Chain/Transportation domain knowledge is a bonus

The pay range listed below is specific to Colorado, which is provided in compliance with Colorado law. Pay ranges may be different in other locations.

Colorado Minimum = $144,200 annually

Colorado Maximum = $216,400 annually
