TeleSign is hiring an Engineering Manager to join our team! In this role, you will manage both projects and the team that support our internal and customer-facing web properties. You will be a security-focused and customer-centric leader who is excited not only about designing and architecting the big picture, but also about working closely with the people who will help to make it happen. This is a hands-on development role that includes people management.
Summary
The Software Engineering Manager covers part of a Sr. Software Engineer's function and is responsible for managing a software engineering team and working with the Director or Sr. Manager on the team career growth. The role requires a balance between people management, leadership, and technical responsibilities. Help with product design and development, he/she also hires and trains staff.
Responsibilities
- Can perform Sr. Software Engineer job functions when needed
- Oversee the software development processes within the team
- Responsible for architecture and technical direction of his/her team in coordination with the principal engineer and/or architect
- Manage a team of both Software Engineers and SDETs
- Work closely with a principal engineer(s) of the domain, architect(s) and the chief architect to ensure the design and implementation neither create nor contribute to technical debt
- Understand and align with the company's vision and strategic objectives and communicate them to the engineering team
- Effectively communicate company and Engineering organization objectives to team members and implement solutions
- Work closely with the counterpart in Product Management to ensure technical aspects of a project are well understood and included in the requirements, and the requirements are well thought through
- Anticipate, detect project execution issues, and take corrective action in collaboration with the team, Program Manager, and other teams
- Develop team members performance and training plans, ensuring that they align with the company's objectives and the individual's career goals
- Ensure team members apply SDLC standards and best practices
- Plan and coordinate all the activities of the team
- Ensure operational continuity of the team and proactively escalates any potential risks
- Work with other teams' Software Engineer managers to coordinate cross-team communication
- Participate in the hiring process of Software Engineer and SDET Engineers
Essential Requirements
- 7+ years of software development experience preferable a Linux Environment
- 0-4 years in a leadership role including experience leading a software engineering team, setting priorities and plans to meet business goals and objectives
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Passion for team building and mentoring
- Strong understanding of AGILE and SCRUM methodologies
- 3+ years' experience with:
- Developing cloud-based, scalable ETL/ELT, data pipeline tools (Glue, Spark, etc.)
- Distributed SQL querying (Athena, Presto, etc.)
- Workflow orchestration tools (AWS Step function, airflow, etc.)
- Familiarity with:
- Data warehousing (Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, etc.)
- Feature stores (Sagemaker Feature Store, Databricks Feature Store, etc.)
- Data streaming technologies (Kineses, Spark Streaming, etc.)
- Expertise in Python and Scala
- Familiarity with noSQL options (Cassandra, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis, etc)
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with Jenkins
- Experience using test frameworks (JUnit, TestNG, nose, etc.)
- Experience with high volume web services. Caching, distributed processing, replication, and performance profiling
- Experience testing in Linux
- Experience testing web services (REST)
- Experience testing in both Linux and windows
- Experience testing commercial applications
- TDD/BDD
- Experience with Docker
- AWS Code Commit or Terraform
