Engineering Manager, Economy Growth (Sign-up and Up-flow)
Atlassian can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity, assuming candidates have eligible working rights and a sufficient timezone overlap with their team. As our offices re-open, Atlassians can choose to work remotely or return to an office, unless it's necessary for the role to be performed in the office. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.
Atlassian is a leading provider of collaboration, development, and issue tracking software for teams around the world. With over 100,000 global customers (including 85 of the Fortune 100) and millions of users on our cloud platform, we are advancing the power of collaboration with products including Jira Software, Jira Service Desk, Confluence, Bitbucket, Trello, and more. Motivated by clear values, an AMAZING culture, and consistent revenue growth, we're on a journey to unleash the potential of every team. We'd like you to be a part of this journey.
We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead two brand new growth teams in the Pacific timezone. These teams will be taking on our biggest opportunities for Atlassian to accelerate its growth, bringing us closer to our company-wide mission to scale to 100 million MAU. This is an exciting opportunity to push the envelope in the way we introduce new customers to our products and the value of our editions. You will leverage analytics to build up an understanding of what makes different types of customers successful, and utilize our segmentation platform to deliver targeted experiences. The team works across a broad range of products and technical stacks and has the autonomy to generate their own ideas, operating with a philosophy of build, measure, and learn.
Working within your leadership team (comprising engineering manager, product manager, designer, and analyst), you'll be responsible for building effective teams, empowering them to achieve their goals, and putting those goals into a broader context. Your greatest responsibility will be looking after the individuals reporting to you - mentoring and supporting them in their professional development, unlocking their potential, and challenging them to step outside their comfort zone to grow and excel.
Although previous experience in growth would be a benefit, it is not required to be successful in this role. Since you'll be working across many of Atlassian's products and platforms, being able to demonstrate exceptional communication skills working with multiple stakeholders will be essential. You will be able show pragmatism in your decision making, with the ability to be agile to get things done, with a longer-term focus on engineering excellence.
We'd love for you to have significant experience as an engineer building large-scale distributed systems, experience in leading a team, and experience in growing individual engineers. On your first day, we'll expect you to have:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- 2+ years experience in engineering management following Agile development processes.
- Experience working with large-scale distributed systems.
- Excellent prioritization and self-organizing skills and outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience setting a very high bar for excellence across your engineering team, and putting systems in place to measure against that bar.
- The skills for breaking down problems into executable chunks and coordinating multiple engineers to deliver a solution.
- Strong skills mentoring, growing, and retaining talent.
- Ability to work well in a team, have a positive attitude, patience, and humility.
It's great, but not required if you have
- Experience in Continuous Delivery and the DevOps mindset.
- Experience with growth / AB testing
- Experience working with data and analytics
