What you'll be doing

As a manager on Tableau's C++ Core team, you will own key C++ libraries and components that feature teams use to create intuitive and powerful analytics experiences that help millions of people around the world to see and understand their data. Our components are used throughout Tableau's products and our team is actively growing to meet the demands of high priority security and compliance projects while continuing to provide the foundation that Tableau developers rely on to delight users everywhere.

Some of the things you'll do include

  • Lead improvements to Tableau C++ libraries and work with feature teams to help them adopt new functionality.
  • Ensure third party and open source C++ libraries are up to date, working with Tableau's Security team to address new vulnerabilities.
  • Balance the needs of multiple feature team and project stakeholders, creating the environment your team needs to deliver high quality work at a sustainable pace on predictable timelines.
  • Contribute to Tableau's strategy for evolving and maintaining the C++ codebase that is at the core of our rich Analytics capabilities.
  • Support your team in engaging with the open-source community and integrating Tableau contributions into C++ open source projects.
  • Drive engineering and Agile best practices on your team to ensure productivity, deliver high quality software and provide customer value.
  • Coach, mentor and grow your team towards career goals and cultivate a collaborative, engaged culture on your team.



Who you are

  • Technical. You have C++ experience and are comfortable diving deep with engineers from intern to Architect level working on both client and server-side functionality.
  • Experienced. You have 7+ years of software development experience and 2+ years of engineering management experience. Experience with both Linux and Windows is a plus.
  • High Standards. You love building great products and have a strong sense of ownership, accountability and delivery. You know how to engineer solutions that provide robustness, scalability and performance.
  • Strong Communicator. You distill complex technical and project information down to the key elements and communicate effectively across disciplines and to various levels of an organization.
  • Curious. You are motivated to learn and continuously expand your areas of expertise. You cultivate this curiosity in your team, ensuring your team members are always learning and working on problems they find challenging and rewarding.
  • Team Builder. You identify and develop strong talent. You build effective teams with a culture of collaboration, customer empathy and focus on results.
