We are seeking an Engineering Manager to join a quickly growing team of engineers, marketers, business developers, and product managers (like a small startup) to help sustainably scale Backstage. In particular, we’re looking for ways to turbocharge the adoption of an already successful open source project and develop engineers into a healthy and engaged team.

As a leader in this space your responsibilities will vary frequently. We all wear different hats and this role will span all facets from growing the team and continuously improving our engineering practices, to delivering state-of-the-art technology and collaborating with external Backstage adopters seeking support. All while collaborating with multiple teams across Spotify. You are passionate about and someone who excels in a flexible environment!

What You'll Do

• Develop the people in the team through coaching, mentoring and management
• Communicate with and grow a vibrant open source community spanning 100s of companies
• Drive and be accountable for technical delivery and work with your team on strategy and execution
• Facilitate collaboration together with engineering and product to tackle interesting and complex challenges across the platform
• Advocate and advance modern, agile software development practices and help develop and promote stellar engineering and organizational practices.
• Grow the technical expertise of your team

Who You Are

• You believe in entrepreneurial leadership, bottom-up culture, and are invested in developing both thriving engineers and cohesive teams
• You have demonstrated experience working in and on open source projects
• There's a wealth of engineering experience in your background
• You are hardworking and have experience in leading, managing, coaching or mentoring software developers towards delivering timely, high-quality software with them
• Someone who's an empathetic communicator who enjoys working multi-functionally.
• You are experienced in building a collaborative environment which fosters a creative and playful culture
