The Role

Lark is looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager for a team responsible for a few of our critical backend services. This team is responsible for managing our configuration service for users, partners, device orders, management of the devices that we ship, as well as a few other services. This team owns a large portion of the services that allow us to onboard new users and partners.

We are looking for someone who is coming from a technical background and still hands-on, but has grown to be a leader able to manage all aspects of a team: hiring, growing people, planning & working collaboratively with other teams (engineering / product management / program management), performing code reviews, familiar with latest best practices, proposing & reviewing technical designs.

What You'll Do

• Oversee engineers responsible for the services under your umbrella
• Work collaboratively across engineering, product and project management teams to ensure projects are well communicated, aligned and managed
• Participate in the Agile development process, including scoping, technical design, estimation effort, coding, testing, debugging, code reviews, maintenance and support
• Own the deployments, oncall, monitor reliability and performance of all your services, ensure that we have comprehensive dashboards with alerting for everything you do
• Collaborate with other engineering teams, technical program managers, product managers to ensure the services are developed according to specifications and needed timelines
• Responsible for quality and testing for your services, making sure that everything is developed to the highest standards of quality using fully automated testing
• Responsible for growing the team, hiring, mentoring, coaching and reviews

What You'll Need

• Be a strong technical hands-on leader with experience in building backend services 
• Strong project management skills and experience with agile/scrum
• Extensive hands on experience and ability to code / review code from your team.
• Experience working with an agile process.
• Experience with Java / Go / Javascript / Typescript
• Expert knowledge of Go a plus as our new services are developed in this language
• Prior experience in AWS services such as DynamoDB, Lambdas, 
• Kubernetes a big plus
• B.S., M.S., or PhD. in Computer Science or equivalent
• 12+ years of experience in engineering of backend services
• 5+ years of experience as a lead or manager of a team providing backend services

Working at Lark 

Lark offers the option to work remotely in the United States.  For Colorado Applicants only: minimum annual salary is $181,000 (minimum salary varies for other geographies). You may also be offered a bonus, stock options and/or benefits.  The company is headquartered in Mountain View, CA.
