Description
The Prismatic Fabrication Team is looking for talented and self-driven individuals to fill the role of Engineering Group Manager (EGM). The Team plays a significant role in Programs at the heart of GM's Propulsion Systems, both in Electrification and Conventional Products. This includes being a key part of GM's $27 billion of investments in EV and AV products and 30 EVs by 2025, including GMC Hummer EV and Cadillac Lyriq. The primary responsibility of this EGM is to lead multiple teams of engineers aligned to executing the Prismatic manufacturing strategy across EV Drive Units, EV Body Structures as well as Transmissions and Engines. The EGM provides leadership and direction to (3) Teams and a small group of direct reports consisting of Subject Matter Experts and Technical Specialists, for a total Prismatic Team size of 30-40 engineers.
The team has tremendous opportunities to apply the latest technology in both the Product and Process of current programs and to apply the latest lessons learned from the global launches to improve quality and efficiency of future systems via the Bill of Process (BOP)and Bill of Equipment (BOE). Work is performed in a team environment where there is daily interactions with Product Engineering (PE), Programs System Engineers (PSEs) and Manufacturing Engineers (MEs).
Responsibilities

  • Set objectives for team members and coach them for success
  • Establish and oversee required tooling activities or review and evaluate proposals for re-use, retool and new manufacturing processes
  • Develop long-range plans for improvements of processes and manufacturing activities
  • Develop OEM Supplier base and relationships
  • Provide technical assistance to achieve manufacturing performance
  • Maintain open communication with plants and support ongoing manufacturing operations with technical support where needs identified
  • Provide an environment for continuous development and learning for all team members
  • Guide technical leadership in areas of Prismatic Fabrication and related operations
  • Support the use of common systems such as Process of Manufacturing Engineering (PoME), BPD, Global Read Across Tool (GRAT), FIT, lessons learned for standardizing and improving processes with a drive to reducing the structural cost of manufacturing
  • Lead, Guide and Manage a Manufacturing Engineering team that does the following:
  • Develop and continuously improve the BOP, BOE and BOO for Prismatic components including EV Drive Units, Transmissions and Engines which includes:
    • Analytical and mechanical gaging techniques
    • Efficient material flow;
    • Human factors consideration;
    • Sequence of operations
  • Design, build, integrate, install and successfully launch systems as well as continuously improve equipment and tools required in plants for the production of high quality parts.
  • Process analysis, using math-based tools for process development, optimization and problem-solving to address SPQRCE launch issues and reduce structural cost
  • Work with Product Engineering to provide design direction for efficient manufacturing of new product designs, such as accounting for Manufacturing Requirements (MR's) .
  • Provide accurate cost estimates for new or revised products
  • Partner with Purchasing to develop the supply base for Machine Tool Suppliers; provide manufacturing technical support to suppliers through the SQE organization.
  • Work with plants & purchasing in support of cost savings initiatives and provide technical support for solving manufacturing problems.


Additional Description
Qualifications:

  • High Level of technical knowledge and ability in process engineering disciplines
  • Demonstrated understanding of Prismatic manufacturing and measurement processes
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to implement General Motor Manufacturing System (GMS) principles
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop direct reports - 5+ years of experience in a supervisory role is preferred
  • Knowledge of Product/Process Design and the Manufacturing Interface
  • Launch knowledge
  • The ideal candidate will have demonstrated capability of driving results, as well as strategic agility & urgency


Preferred Experiences:

  • Demonstrated applications of plant floor and product design improvements for manufacturing
  • Multiple different ME assignments with successful individual achievements or strong team-based achievements
  • Global Exposure working with others from other regions to complete projects
  • Cross-Functional assignment in another ME Center
  • Plant job assignments for 2-3 years, preferably in GPS


Education/ Training:

  • Bachelor Degree, recommended in Engineering
  • Master's degree preferred
