Engineer/Computer Systems Analyst
This position provides support for operating issues affecting the reliable operations of the bulk electric system for Southern Company Services Transmission's Energy Management Systems (EMS). This position is responsible for the implementation, execution, and improvement of operational processes to ensure system availability for all computer systems supported by the EMS department and used by Southern Company operating companies' transmission control centers (OPCO TCC's) as well as the power coordination center (PCC) and their respective back-office personnel.
This position provides day to day work scheduling support for the Energy Management Systems (EMS) department to ensure visibility to all system stakeholders. They are responsible for understanding system changes to upstream, downstream, and EMS supported systems and reliably communicating the impact and risk to the Reliability Coordinator and impacted TCCs. The position is also responsible for facilitating department meetings to discuss scheduled, impacting changes each week, as well as focused meetings with technical Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) when necessary to ensure they understand the impact and risk of major changes and can coordinate the effort and communicate the impact and risk appropriately to customers and internally to the department. This position is essential to ensuring compliance with NERC CIP TOP-001-5 R9.
This position helps support the EMS Support Center execution by understanding the team's procedures and encouraging adherence by the ESC desk operators. This position is responsible for supporting reports through the EMS incident management tool and other process automation tools to support the ESC function.

Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Requires knowledge of computer systems and application support
- Requires good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both an oral and written manner
- Requires strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Requires attention to details and procedure adherence even under pressure
- Requires time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
- Working knowledge of BMC Remedy and Smart Reporting is preferred
- Working knowledge of Windows, Linux, and AIX UNIX based operating systems preferred
- Working knowledge of SCADA systems (Spectrum Power 3 or OSI Monarch) is preferred
- Understanding of distributed computer networks is a plus
- Basic programming skills are a plus
- Must be able to obtain Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) and Insider Threat Program (ITP) security clearance
Experience and Education:
- Degree in Computer Science/Engineering (ABET accredited) preferred or equivalent experience
- Experience supporting and troubleshooting computer systems is a plus
- General understanding of computer system infrastructure, operations, and security
- Knowledge of electric utility transmission operations is a plus

- Willingness to be on call as needed 24x7

- Travel (10%-15% of time) to attend Southern Company functions and maintain system hardware
