The Large Power Systems Division has an opening as an Engineer – Configurator/Systems Integrator. This position will be in Lafayette, IN and/or Griffin, GA. In this role you will begin partnering with various engineering and marketing teams to prepare products for market introduction, ensuring product data requirements/information is available, and product design/release is structured to meet price list and facility needs. You may be supporting multiple NPI programs at any one time depending on the complexity of the program. The Packaging team is a cross platform engineering group that manages products for multiple platforms and market segments.

Engineer - Configurator/Systems Integrator may work in any number of functional areas requiring an engineering degree, including, but not limited to, product design, development, research, metallurgy, quality, reliability, materials, manufacturing process, application and installation, product performance/support, service, and facilities. Individuals may have multiple assignments during their tenure as Engineer - Configurator/Systems Integrator. Assignments may require the Engineer - Configurator/Systems Integrator to review the work of technicians or other support personnel, provide technical advice to individuals at various levels in the organization and work with another unit or team. Assignments will become more complex and require the Engineer to assume a significant role, either as an individual contributor or as part of a project team, with increasing emphasis on analyzing, identifying, and applying engineering techniques to solve problems and make recommendations. 

Key areas of responsibility encountered in this role may include any or all of the following: perform needs analysis and initiate ideas; evaluate new products, processes, or systems; communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units; contribute to the design of new products and processes; perform product and process maintenance; collaborate with and support other engineers, managers, marketing personnel, customers and suppliers, maintain technical currency, and represent the company externally.  You will manage the planning and execution of projects, continually learning and stay abreast of innovative technology, coach team members, and broaden your professional network.

The successful candidate will have experience in higher level system/assembly design, package/engine application, and/or system integration. Additionally, he or she will have strong people skills for collaborating with process partners and to identify and implement solutions for issue resolution.

Engineer – Configurator/Systems integrator must develop good networks to enable them to obtain resources and cooperation needed and set priorities so that they can ensure the success of the team to deliver to plan. They also must have strong communication skills and interpersonal skills; as well as, ever increasing skills in the role-based competencies of Managing Vision & Purpose, Decision Quality, and Negotiating. 

This is not a supervisory position.
 

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Creation/Integration of NPI products into a Sales pricelist for Electric Power, Marine, and Oil & Gas. 
  • Ensure accurate BoMs and associated options for all managed pricelists, utilizing product compatibility/rules communication tools (Engineering Handoff Documentation)
  • Ensure pricelist top down model quality  
  • Leverage VDRA/VB processes to proactively resolve potential package build issues 
  • Resolve open NPI VDRA issues, actively work to drive NPI team to close them 
  • Log known issues in tracker, audit initial NPI orders to ensure BoM/Compatibility accuracy and process order updates as necessary to correct until Permanent Corrective Actions (PCA).
  • Create new product model/serial prefix and pricing arrangements, update existing as necessary ensuring pricelists drive accurate material list on orders 
  • Identify and release material status updates to new product models on carryover material between products.
  • Work with marketing and product definition teams on pricelist updates and help route PLCNs as necessary 
  • Coordinate and resolve product structure issues between assembly facility, marketing, and L3-L4 teams to meet implementation requirements.
  • Provide support for shop NPI builds/issues by investigating, coordinating with L3s, identifying Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) and providing Interim Corrective Action (ICA) 
  • Manage product marketing information readiness: Spec sheets,

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering discipline
  • 3-5 years on Engineering experience (internal or external) 
  • 0-2 years of design experience and factory support  
  • Experience of Product configuration  
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills, a good mechanical and/or electrical/electronic aptitude,    and good communications skills  

Top Candidates will also have:

  • Strong organization and work prioritization skills
  • Prior experience with product releasing to global facilities. 
  • Prior genset experience 
  • Exposure to Caterpillar Quality including Warranty, DPU, CPI 
  • Exposure to Operations, Purchasing, Supply Chain teams 
  • Exposure to NPI/CPI/Warranty/DPU  
  • Advanced computer skills PACN, PLCN, CTS (Change Tracking System) familiarity 
  • SAP, EOMP, CSQ, product change management documentation familiarity 
  • Good VisMockup knowledge, some Creo experience, VDRA GenXT tool understanding 
  • AQE, OASIS, TMI and other CAT web tools proficiency 
  • MS Office expertise (Excel, PowerPoint)
