The Dealer Service Tools (DST) group is looking for a capable design engineer with desire to learn and grow through hands-on experience in the design and development of new and innovative service tools. This role, located in Peoria, IL, is a key part of a growing our team of tooling experts.
DST Engineers must manage their own development, continuously learning through experience and staying abreast of emerging technologies. Key learning comes from gaining experience in product, process and systems definition, selecting the most appropriate tools and techniques for a project and collaborating with people who work outside of engineering as well as technical communication and documentation.
Good communication skills are required to support effective collaboration with individuals across various organizations and located in multiple geographic locations.
Good organizational and project management skills are required, as you balance the requests of multiple ongoing NPI programs, process partner projects, dealer inquires, and supplier engagement activities.
JOB DUTIES:
(including but not limited to the following):
• Creation and design of critical service tooling which will allow our dealers to be safe and efficient when maintaining and repairing Caterpillar products.
• Support Product Group NPI programs through development of new tooling solutions, meeting expectations for tool capability, quality, and cost, all within the NPI timeline.
• Creatively design tools, from pen and paper sketches to 3D modeling in Creo, that solve service problems while also being user friendly and easy to manufacture.
• Optimize and ensure regulatory compliance by performing FEA, conducting risk assessments, and documenting FMEA for your designs.
• Use Cat systems: SIS 2.0, PRWB, TIC/REDI, Part Scout, DPO portal, NextGen/GuidedBuy, EtQ Reliance (parts deviation).
• Execute Regulatory Compliance projects that require both engineering design and supplier identification.
• Develop customer-ready publications supporting serviceable tools, including Tool Operating Manuals, Tool Articles & Brochures, and Instructional Videos
• Collaborate closely with Caterpillar Procurement team and Suppliers on identification or development of new tools that meet or exceed requirements established through NPI activity, regulatory, or cost
• Provide expertise to address dealer inquires for technical support through a wide variety of inputs
including data review, drawing and schematic investigation
• Be a problem solver through the practical application of your engineering degree.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor degree in an accredited Mechanical Engineering curriculum or
• Technology degree with 3+ years of relevant design engineering experience
• Demonstrated strong technical skills
TOP CANDIDATE WILL ALSO HAVE:
• An advanced degree in an Engineering or Computer Science curriculum (Electrical, Computer, or
Mechanical)
• 3+ years experience with Caterpillar product
• Excellent project management skills
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to perform complex assignments
• Self-starter with strong technical leadership skills
• Ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the wok
group, as well as customers and suppliers
