Job Summary:

The Future Wireless North America (FWNA) group within InterDigital's Research and Innovation (R&I) organization is responsible for leading InterDigital's North American next generation wireless research projects. Our charter is to identify future technology needs, develop and learn from proof-of-concept prototypes, and innovate around a system focus. Today, our team is at the leading edge of 6G research.

We are seeking a highly motivated engineer to work in our team to analyze topics, identify problems and develop solutions for next generation mobile networks (5G evolution and 6G). These intelligent networks will self-optimize to deliver advanced services to users and devices that are tailored to content, context, and connectivity. The selected candidate will research topic areas related to 5G and 6G networks, identify problems, propose & prototype solutions, and assist to drive these solutions into global standards (3GPP, IEEE, IETF, ETSI, etc.).

Responsibilities:

• Work in a project team to research and develop innovative solutions for 5G and beyond wireless networks, devices, and application. Research topics included: Distributed Communications & Computing, Edge Computing Evolution, Localized Customer Premise & Personal IoT Networks, Distributed Ledger & Blockchain, and the enablement of value-added services (such as AI) within next generation wireless networks and applications.
• Document problems and solutions, which are discussed and analyzed in a research team setting, which may include simulations & results, illustrations using block diagrams, architecture descriptions, sequence diagrams, etc. in clear English.
• Design, implement, and test novel proof of concept prototypes and software for selected research topics. Analyze and document proof of concept results. Support deployment of proof of concepts into leading 56/6G testbeds and research partner labs.
• Analize research publications and networking standards (e.g., 3GPP 5GLAN, Edge Computing, D2D, Personal IoT Networks, Residential / Local Data Networks, Permissioned Distributed Ledgers & Blockchain, etc.), including presenting results to the team.
• Assist in writing external publications, such as a conference paper, standard contributions (3GPP, ETSI, IETF, Next G Alliance), etc.

Qualifications:

• MS graduate in Telecommunications / Network Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
• Experience in wireless protocols (3GPP, IEEE 802.11, etc.)
• Experience in networking and protocols (e.g., IP, TCP, HTTP, VLAN, etc.)
• Programming experience in one or more of the following is essential:
  
  • Proficient in Go and / or Java and web-programming (JavaScript, REST, JSON, etc.).
  • Proficient in C or C++, a plus.
  • Database experience (SQL, no SQL, etc.), a plus.
  • Proficient in scripting languages (e.g., python, bash), a plus.
• Knowledge in Cloud Computing and Virtualization (virtual machines, containers).
  
  • Working knowledge in Kubernetes and Docker is a plus.
• Knowledge of service API concepts (Open API Specification, RESTful APIs, Protobuf, etc.) a plus.
• Experience with Simulation tools (e.g., NS3, MATLAB, OPNET, etc.) is a plus
• Proven publication record in prestigious conferences and journals is a plus
• Willing to take challenges in a fast paced and high-pressure environment
• Ability to thrive in an innovative, dynamic, and research-oriented work environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including strong presentation skills
