We are looking to add an Engineer, Compliance Test I to the Mechanical and Test Engineering team. Qualified candidates will be results-focused, self-directed, data-driven and the have the ability to adapt easily to the changing needs of the business and our customers. This is a hands-on position. You will be working with technicians, engineers, product development team, and third party certification bodies to complete validation projects, product testing, building prototypes and maintaining test equipment.

Qualified candidates will possess the following:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field; or equivalent education.
  • Experience using writing tests standard procedures and protocols.
  • Use of 3D modeling software
  • Understanding and experience with regulatory codes such as UL, NEC and NFPA.
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting test requirements, electric, electronic and mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills the ability to communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Experience in technical documentation and report generation.

Summary

  • Establish and lead the UL Data Acceptance Program (DAP) for the Conductix test facility to help maintain product safety listings.
  • Work with and coordinate a group of technicians to complete large validation projects, complete tests, schedule and prioritize tasks, build prototypes, and catalog/maintain test equipment.
  • Manage project timelines and provide direction to the technician team or third-party testing laboratories to assure projects are completed on time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include

  • Proficient in data acquisition techniques, gage calibration, and strain gaging. Able to set up, instrument, and conduct tests to collect data concerning mechanical and electrical parameters.
    • Force, Displacement, Speed, Pressure, etc.
    • Current, Voltage, Phase, etc.
  • Assist in organizing compliance programs by preparing timetables, cost estimates, and required resources including test laboratories and equipment.
  • Prepares compliance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing measurement data and trends.
  • Reviews design validation and verification activities as required to assure products will meet technical and contractual requirements.
  • Provides guidance to internal engineering teams to develop setups and protocols for durability and lifecycle tests.
  • Develops test standards and best practices for common test types; heat rise, hi-pot, break force, cyclic life.
  • Assures timely completion of test and prototype activities.
  • Assures test lab documentation standards are being met in accordance with current ISO standards.
  • Assist lab technician team to maintain calibration files and equipment documentation concerning test capabilities in the lab.
  • Limited travel to collect data from customer installations and third-party test laboratories.
  • Understands and interprets regulatory codes such as UL, NEC, CSA, and NFPA.
  • Perform any other duties as required by the customer and assigned by management. Supports and upholds the Quality and EHS policy. Upholds the Core Values.

Supervisory and Leadership Responsibilities

  • No direct supervisory responsibilities.

Qualified candidates will possess the following

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field; or equivalent education and experience, one to three years of test and measurement experience, collecting and analyzing data to validate product design and durability.
  • Substantial knowledge of mechanical and electrical concepts with a solid understanding of mechanical and electrical product design, and best practices.
  • Proficient knowledge of mechanical and electrical validation testing, statistical analysis, data acquisition tools, and post-processing activities.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, the ability to write clear and concise test reports.
  • Ability to manage many concurrent projects while maintaining a high level of productivity to complete projects on time.

During travel noise levels may require the use of hearing protection. Work in our prototype or test facility will require the use of PPE including safety glasses and steel-toe safety shoes.
