Department OverviewApplied Technology is a prototyping center within Motorola Solutions. We specialize in proof-of-concept and low-volume advanced communications products for government and industry customers using wireless technologies on Android and Linux based embedded systems. Our customer-centric, team-based environment provides an excellent growth opportunity for engineers and developers in enterprise markets where innovation is the primary focus.
Job Description

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain the necessary security clearance as required by government contract

  • In this leadership position, the role will have unique and varied responsibilities. As a key resource across multiple product teams, the successful candidate will handle these and other tasks as assigned.

  • You will be responsible for the design, implementation and testing of complex embedded software applications for a state-of-the-art small form factor Software Defined Radio platform.

  • Leading small project teams, your tasks will often involve hands-on interaction with product hardware for development and debugging.

  • You must have an excellent understanding of real-time embedded software design and be proficient in Linux, C, C++, Perl and other software languages and operating systems.

  • Applicants should have knowledge of Matlab, SYSGEN or other simulation tools.

Technical Leadership:

  • Ability to go deeper into technical depth and be able to help resolve technical issues

  • Help grow technical development and motivation of others across multi-disciplinary teams

  • Develop man-hour estimates for feature work

  • Build relationships and trust, provide open working environment for knowledge sharing across all functional team

System Engineering:

  • Drive product and feature requirements, architecture, design, and test strategy with Customers, Project Leads, Engineering teams, and External Contractors.

  • Lead product and feature development, primarily in the embedded communications space.

  • Develop technology and product roadmaps.

  • Product & Feature Architecture, requirements definition, design, and development experience.

  • Experience with development of wireless communications technology. Knowledge of cellular systems is a plus.

  • Experience with RF, Digital Hardware, and Mechanical architecture & design is highly desired.

  • Embedded Linux OS experience is a plus.

  • Knowledge in microprocessor-based hardware design and an understanding of Digital Signal Processing system design and analysis is a plus.

Primary customer technical interface: 

  • Work directly, ongoing with customers to develop use cases and product requirements.

  • Communicate technical status verbally, written, and in monthly customer meetings.

  • Occasional travel to customer meetings may be required.

  • You must be a flexible, results-oriented problem-solver who requires minimal supervision. Projects can vary greatly from one to the next, so you must thrive on variety and enjoy taking on new challenges.

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) or Master of Science (MS) degree, preferably in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.

  • 5+ years embedded software architecture & design experience

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain the necessary security clearance as required by government contract
