Description:

Responsible for research, design, and development of custom software components, their data models, and applications, in conjunction with hardware product development. Primarily responsible for the design and development of software products for a variety software applications. Participates in all phases of the software development life cycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, integration, and test of software products. Applies computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis concepts and principles in the development of creative software solutions. Works closely with cross functional members of the engineering organization to design, develop, and evaluate interfaces between the hardware and software, operational performance requirements, design of the overall system, and development of software for the system. The Embedded Software Engineer, Senior Specialist Level is a senior professional with strong job area knowledge and broad knowledge of project management, managing complex projects and processes with general oversight to achieve operational targets and goals with direct impact on team and departmental results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Interact directly with engineering team and program management staff to analyze requirements and provide insights and recommendations based on technical subject matter expertise
• Translate requirements into optimal technical designs
• Ability to understand and use designs based on based on Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approach
• Ability to create and develop data models that are conformant to the FACE Technical Standard
• Provide guidance to peers on their designs
• Effectively present technical designs to Software Engineering, program management, and other team members
• Implement requirements into software components and applications according to technical design
• Unit and component test software components and applications to ensure quality of deliverables
• Provide direction, input, and effort toward the technical verification of all technical, functional, and corporate requirements prior to delivery of software components and applications
• Investigate and address technically difficult requirement violations in functional testing and production software as needed
• Track and report status of tasks, deliverables, and issues to Software Engineering team
• Help ensure team adherence to corporate processes and standards for all activities and deliverables during all phases of involvement in the software development life cycle
• Identify innovations and lessons learned within the Software Engineering team to maximize quality and productivity
• Expertly manage multiple task assignments and other corporate priorities
• Mentor other team members
• Required to perform other appropriate duties as requested, directed, or assigned
• Perform all job functions with a positive, professional attitude

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Strong knowledge of relevant technologies, software development methodologies, and programming languages including UML/SysML or similar modeling technologies
• Strong knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of object oriented design/development in a real-time environment
• Strong knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of software unit, component, and integration testing
• Strong knowledge of real-time development using real-time operating systems
• Strong knowledge of C and C++ development
• Strong ability to identify complex problems and provide multiple solutions
• Strong ability to understand, create, and communicate complex design specifications
• Strong ability to quickly and effectively breakdown assignments into work tasks and provide effort and schedule estimates and successfully achieve them
• Strong ability to identify and solve complex problems
• Experience designing relational database schema
• Experience programming in a POSIX or ARINC 653 environment
• Knowledge and understanding of regulatory standards impact on software development
• Knowledge of Qt or other similar UI design tools
• Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance required

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and work experience
• Expert level experience with C or C++ in a real-time development environment
• Minimum 6 years of progressively advanced real-time object oriented commercial or government software development experience
• Work experience following highly-regulated guidelines, such as DO-178
