Embedded Cybersecurity Engineer
Description
You're passionate about a zero-emissions future and want to build something special. You want to own your space but work with talented, like-minded people on important projects. The pace doesn't scare you - it excites you. Quality and integrity matter to you.
We feel exactly the same way.
Drive Forward. Introduce yourself to us and let's start a conversation.
We're on the lookout for an Embedded Cybersecurity Engineer who will support the execution of security-related activities to complete the security case for Nikola's controllers in our groundbreaking Tre BEV and FCEV. In this key role, you will play an important part in defining and designing our cybersecurity features and gain experience and domain knowledge in embedded cybersecurity in the automotive domain.
We're looking for the engineer that always has the corner cases in mind, can break designs with ease, and is obsessed with finding the vulnerabilities in a solution. Someone who has good fundamentals in embedded security, cryptography, or security processes, and wants to grow with opportunities in security concept definition and threat or vulnerability analyses. An ideal engineer is eager to dive into the low level details of a debug session with an embedded programmer, but can also talk through multi-system flow diagrams with systems engineers.
You will:
- Ramp up quickly on our controller designs and vehicle-level concepts
- Establish functional experience and familiarity with the SAE J3061 and ISO 21434 security development lifecycle
- Work with architects to tailor concepts to meet the requirements of the Tre FCEV and Tre BEV
- Apply your knowledge of cryptography and security protocols from NIST, IETF, etc. to our vehicle environment
- Work with supplier contacts to analyze security capabilities and potential vulnerabilities
- Analyze in-vehicle security assets to support threat and risk assessments
- Define requirements and verification plans for security features
You'll need:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field
- 2-4 years of device-level cybersecurity experience
- A growth mindset that actively explores new technologies
- Ability to comprehend new systems quickly and identify creative attack entry points
- A working understanding of asymmetric and symmetric cryptography algorithms and their use in key derivation functions and x509v3 certificate handling
- Experience in threat and risk analysis for the definition of cybersecurity requirements
- Knowledge of the security-related product development lifecycle
- Experience with SysML or other modelling based system engineering methods
- Expertise in embedded system architecture and automotive tools & technologies
- Experience in automotive process standards like SAE J3061, ISO 21434, or even ISO 26262 (it's very similar) would be a huge plus
Candidates must have current U.S. work authorization or be TN eligible from Mexico or Canada. This position is not eligible for CPT or OPT.
